Question Reinstalling Ubuntu - 07-04-2009, 12:23 AM

I was in the process of upgrading to 9.04 decided to close the lid, thinking it would still download and install while I was sleeping. Realized that it put it into standby instead. Tried the upgrade again, seemed to work but my hard drive is 100% filled (only 4gb).

I don't really have any experience with Ubuntu. Would it be easier to reinstall Ubuntu to fix my issue? Is there some sort of utility I could run to get that space back?

What are my options?

If you've successfully completed the upgrade, try running "du -sh /var/cache/apt/archives/" in a terminal to find out how much space downloaded software installers take up (du=disk usage, -sh=summary, human-readable).

If it's a significant amount of space, run "sudo apt-get clean" to delete the unneeded files (sudo apt-get clean = run apt-get's clean command with superuser privileges).

Thanks, I was able to recover about 350 MB with that.
