Default Fool Proof Guide to installing OSX 10.5.8 on a Mini 10v! EVERYTHING WORKS!!!

Fool Proof Install Guide for a 100% Working Macbook Mini 10v!
Now updated for 10.5.8!!!

Before we start, Here are all of the files you will be needing:

-DellEFI for 10v(PLEASE NOTE this is a modified dell efi which contains the mini 10v audio fix and the latest chameleon bootloader in order fix hibernation issues, so you must download this version)
-NetbookBootMaker.app.zip
-Mac OS X 10.5.7 Combo Update(for 10.5.5 install discs)
-Mac OS X 10.5.7 Update(for 10.5.6 install discs)
-Appleish Cahmeleon Theme.zip

Files graciously hosted by mechdrew! Check out his site here! OS X | mechdrew

Pre-Install Notice!:
-CHECK YOUR BIOS! If it is A06...rollback to A04 or A05 BEFORE attempting to install OSX
-You CAN NOT use the OSX disc that came with your mac. You MUST buy an actual retail copy of Leopard!
-If you plan on upgrading to 2GB of RAM now is a good time.

1. Follow the NetbookBootMaker Guide to set up the install USB:
Quote:
-Insert the Mac OS X Leopard Install DVD into your Mac, as well as the 8 GB drive. Open Disk Utility (in the Utilities folder of Applications) and select the 8 GB drive in the list. Select the Partition tab, set the Volume Scheme as "1 Partition", name it what you want (no space please as there is currently a bug with them), and select "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" as the Format. Click "Options...", select "Master Boot Record" and click OK then Apply, then click Partition and confirm your decision by entering your password. (This should only take a minute or two.) Now switch to the Restore tab, drag the OSXDVD partition icon from the left into the Destination field and drag the DVD volume named "Mac OS X Install DVD" to the Source field. (Do not drag the CD Drive model, that will mess things up.) Press Restore, confirm the decision by pressing Restore in the next window, enter your password, and then wait for it to finish. Depending on the drive and disc quality, this can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours.

-Run the NetbookBootMaker app (you'll need to unzip the file first). Select the USB drive as the installation destination and click Install. Enter your password and click okay when it is done. (This next step isn't necessary, but if you have any more room, or if you have another drive available, you should open the Mac OS X 10.5.7 Combo Update image and copy the file inside to a disk as well.) Eject the DVD and the drive from your Mac, either by a right-click (control+click for you one-buttoned people) or by dragging the icon to the trash.
2. Fix BIOS Settings!!!:
-turn on your mini and when you see the dell logo, press F2
-this will take you to the BIOS
-hit the left arrow key to move to the advanced tab
-IF YOUR MINI HAS BLUETOOTH: make sure bluethooth is enabled, disable USB BIOS Legacy support, and enable USB wake support
-IF YOUR MINI DOES NOT HAVE BLUETOOTH: make sure bluthooth is disbaled, enable USB Legacy support, and enable USB wake support
-hit F10 and press enter

3. Installing OSX:

-Insert your USB and turn on your 10v
-Next Press F12 when you see the Dell logo
-Select "USB Storage" and hit enter
-Once the installer loads click continue until you can see the utilities tab on the menu bar
-Select it and start the Disk Utility
-Select your 10v's HDD, and under the partition tab select one partition, name it what you wish(but with no spaces)
-Select options, check guid partition table, and apply the settings
-Once done partitioning exit the disk utility and follow the installation steps
(-you can click customize and remove optional installs such as printer drivers etc..)
-let everything go and eventually you will reach the desktop

4. Updating OSX to 10.5.7:
-Run the Combo/Incremental Update as normal
-Upon Restart click the "-" key when you see the blue progress bar below the apple logo
-type"-x" and hit enter (you should see "boot: -x" in the bottom left)
-Let it go!!! Your Mini 10v will do one of three things:
•Boot to a screwed up screen with only a working mouse -if so simply shut down and reboot into safe mode, this time it should work
•Boot to a black screen and restart itself -
again just boot into safe mode, this time it will work
•Boot up the first time!

-Once you log into safe mode, run the modified DellEFI for 10v ticking these options:
•install bootloader
•install Mini 9 extensions
•Generate dsdt.aml file
•install old GMA kext(optional:if you want to mirror to another monitor via vga port you must check this)
•enable remote cd(optional)
•enable hibernate(HOWEVER if for some reason it says disable hibernate, do NOT check this box)

-Let it run and then restart

5. Updating to 10.5.8:
-Click the apple at the top left and run the software update
-uncheck everything EXCEPT for the "Mac OSX Update"
-let it run. it will first download then install
-after it restarts and you see the blue progress bar below the apple again, hit any key, then type "-x" and hit enter to boot into safe mode as before
-Once in safe mode, run the DellEFI for 10v app with these settings checked:
•install Bootloader
•Install Extensions
•Delete dsdt.aml file
•install old GMA kext(optional:if you want to mirror to another monitor via vga port you must check this)

-let it reboot into osx as normal. It may take a few minutes to boot up this one time, but let it go
-Once booted up run DellEFI for 10v again with these settings checked:
•install bootloader
•install Mini 9 extensions
•Generate dsdt.aml file
•install old GMA kext(this time it is not optional, you will want the old driver)
•enable remote cd(optional)

-reboot and now you have a fully functional 10.5.8 install! However if your audio does not work after sleep, see step seven. If you followed the guide correctly though, it should work perfectly.

6. Deleting the sleep file:
-Open terminal-type this:
Code:
sudo rm /var/vm/sleepimage
FIXING THE ISSUES
having a problem with sleep/wake, audio, can't restart, etc..? check below for a solution!

7. Workaround for getting Audio to work after sleep:(OPTIONAL only do this if your audio does NOT work after sleep!!! If it does work, then skip this section!!!)

-Download sleepwatcher and install both packages:Download SleepWatcher for Mac - Execute commands when sleeping or awakening. MacUpdate Mac System Software Downloads
-open terminal and type:
Code:
cd /etc
-then:
Code:
sudo vi rc.wakeup
-enter your password
-Hold the Shift Button and press GG which brings you to the bottom of the file page
-press the Esc and "I" button and you should see "--insert--" on the bottom line
-Copy and paste this txt to the end of the file:
Code:
/sbin/kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext>>/var/log/system.log
/sbin/kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/HDAEnabler.kext>>/var/log/system.log
/sbin/kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/IOAudioFamily.kext>>/var/log/system.log
/sbin/kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/LegacyAppleHDA.kext>>/var/log/system.log
/sbin/kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/VerbHelper.kext>>/var/log/system.log
sleep 3
/sbin/kextload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext>>/var/log/system.log
/sbin/kextload /System/Library/Extensions/HDAEnabler.kext>>/var/log/system.log
/sbin/kextload /System/Library/Extensions/IOAudioFamily.kext>>/var/log/system.log
/sbin/kextload /System/Library/Extensions/LegacyAppleHDA.kext>>/var/log/system.log
/sbin/kextload /System/Library/Extensions/VerbHelper.kext>>/var/log/system.log
-Press Esc twice and the --insert-- should be removed
-Now hold shift and type "wq"
-Type in "exit"
-hit enter
-type in "logout" and then close terminal

8. Various issues involving sleep fix(optional: again, only for if you have this issue)
-download the zip in this post:Msi Wind Forums • View topic - Chameleon 2.0 RC1 (possible) deepsleep fix
-run DellEFI for 10v again checking install bootloader and install extensions then restart
-next extract the archive.zip and drag the "Boot" file from that folder to the HDD icon on your desktop and overwrite the existing one
-restart

EXTRAS
The stuff you don't really need, but just gosh darn want.

9. Changing the Bootloader theme: (optional)
-unzip the "themes" folder to the "Extra" folder on the root of your HDD
-restart and look at that shiny new theme

you can find more themes here, however they will not be optimized for the mini 10v's screen size:Theme Park

10. Fixing the Battery Monitor: (optional)
-If you update to 10.5.8, the battery monitor can no longer determine your "hours remaining" why I have no clue. The bar itself and percentage still work fine though.
-if you happen to be the sort of picky person that cant stand for this, please download this tiny app here:SlimBatteryMonitor and have it run on startup
-it will display the hours remaining just fine(along with a few other features as well)

Although I strongly do not recommend it for now
(because the driver from the dellefi app works really well for clicking dragging, something the newer drivers don't do well)....but if you do wish to change your trackpad driver. Go here to find a list of all trackpad drivers by melkort: http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/mac-...installer.html and install either v17 or v18.2. You might end up with two trackpad panes in preferences, but rest assure they will both use the new driver you just installed.

CONGRATULATIONS YOUR MINI 10v NOW RUNS OSX 10.5.8 AND EVERYTHING WORKS!!!

HUGE thanks to Mechdrew and Melkort for making DellEFI and the Netbook Installer! Also big thanks to lnxneo for the audio drivers! And I can't leave out Anguish and ItWasLuck3 whose guides helped me tremendously in my own personal hackintosh making experience!

The problem I get is after I've updated to 10.5.7, I reboot and get the messed up screen with only the mouse and white background.

I then boot into safe mode and run dellefi - but I am unable to select the harddrive that I have OS X installed on. Its just blank. Do the above files fix that problem?

I ran into that problem my very first time attempting to install OSX...but I have tested this method three times and it has worked every time!

There's no workaround for the no audio after sleep yet, is there?

Glad everything worked CaCohen! Sadly, there currently is no fix for audio after sleep, however, audio through headphones does work after sleep perfectly!
