Will this step have to be repeated for subsequent updates? (i.e. 10.6.3, etc)

Yes, it will have to be repeated since NetbookInstaller 0.8.3 Final overwrites that kext.

I used this method, and mirroring is working great for me. Plug it in, it does the rest. Thanks hamburglar!

I tried that on 10.5.8, but when I restarted, I got an error saying that the hibernation image is too old, and it wouldn't boot.
I had to boot it in safe mode, and re-run Netbook Installer to install the right extensions.
Any ideas how I can get it to work?
Thanks!

Short answer: There are a few threads here that tell how to but you don't want to.

Longer Answer: The mini is designed so that its primary heat sink is the keyboard. The engineers expected the machine to be used open not closed and expect much of the heat to be shed by the exposed keyboard. Since both the CPU and GPU will throttle down when too warm if you use the mini closed it will be slow and will likely lead to component failure because it gets too hot. If you still want to the magic search term is clamshell mode. I know I've seen more than 1 thread on what app (or pref pane) to get to enable it.

Is there a way to turn off the mini display when using another monitor?

I tried using F1 but that didn't seem to work.
