[Edited to include working link to NBI file] [04/19/13]
This guide will show you how to create a bootable OS X installation USB flash drive using your PC. (For use with Dell Mini 10v, and Dell Mini 9.)

If you are new to Hackintosh, check out this thread before you install:...

Default Systematic cure for blinking cursor

...needed.
"Anything was done by the book", but in vain...

I installed 10.6.3 with NBI 0.8.4 on a Dell mini9 with 8Gb Hd (first on ext. HD, then cloned the ext. HD via CarbonCopyCloner to the internal (HFS+, GUID)), then run NBI from ext. HD OSX-Installation and from the internal (booted into this one via NBI), but cant boot from HD without the NBI-USB drive. I only get the blinking cursor. What could I do - isn't it only the bootloader or the MBR which could be responsible? NBI reports having installed the neccessary extensions and patches, the Extra-folder exists. Can I check/examine the MBR?

Any other ideas?

Regards

I am soo stressed out right now. I've been trying for 4 days straight to put my install OX 10.6 DVD on my stock Dellmini9. I have my 16gb loaded with the iso "formatted with disc image" and mac recognizes it. I also have my 2gbcruzer which I have formatted with every type of format over 9000 times. I have tried every release of netbook bootmaker and run them all through my girlfriends mac. I cant get anything to boot to even start the process. what is going? what am i doing wrong

Default Can I use this method with a 10.6.0 retail DVD?

Had my 10v working nicely with 10.6.7 then tried to get the VGA working using the Hamburglar method and then could not get back in. Either I did something wrong or it doesn't work for 10.6.7.
Thinking of going for the dual boot and leaving the VGA to be managed by windows.

Hi. I know this is a Dell Mini forum but this is the only good, working guide I could find on the internet that would work in my situation. So last night I was trying to use tonymacx86's guide with iboot. What I did was take the dvd drive out of my desktop and connect it to my netbook (which is an ACER ASPIRE ONE D257 with an INTEL ATOM processor). When I tried to use iboot, it just wouldn't work. I had just bought the 10.6.3 retail disk from apple. So last night I googled a little and found out that 10.6.2 and 10.6.3 don't support atom processors and I got kind of frustrated that I had just wasted 30 dollars. But I was determined for it to work somehow and I eventually found this guide...which uses the 10.6.3 retail disk AND a netbook that has an atom processor like mine. The only problem is, I don't have a 16gb flash drive. I put NBI on a 4 gig flash drive and put it in my netbook and it came up with "System Reserved" and "Windows NTFS" but no matter how many times I opened and closed the DVD drive with the disc, or rebooted and tried again, it wouldn't show "Mac OS Install DVD". So, I figured that you HAVE to use a flash drive for this part, you can't just use the DVD. Is this true?? Or should the DVD/Optical Drive work if its plugged into my netbook? I don't really want to go spend 15-20 dollars on a flash drive when I just spent 30 on the disc. Does anybody have an answer? Thanks!

I'm supposed to know this one I think. If I did at some point I've forgotten. But I thinks I'm thinking there's something about NBI that will reject the DVD, as there are other guides that do use the DVD. Having said that, I was never successful with those methods and 10.6.3-- the information I found at the time was specific to earlier versions of the disk.

In any case, it doesn't HAVE to be a flashdrive. You could also use a full size external USB drive, most of us have at least one of those now adays, I think. Only thing is you'll be formatting the drive at some point, so you'll need to back up anything you might have on it.

I'll double check on the DVD side, but i really don't think that'll work to be honest.

Best of luck, but I also should say i can't guarantee this method will work with your specific hardware anyway. Mini owners are lucky, as NBI takes care of just about everything with regards to KEXTs and what not. But it's specific to a small number of configurations as I understand it.

cheers.

Okay. I tried the DVD drive again and it didn't work. I don't think its going to...I have an external drive that holds about 500 gigs but it already has about 300 gb of stuff on it so I can't use it...

Last night I tried iBoot again and it almost worked. I'm not sure if you've ever heard of or used iBoot...but anyway, when I used it, it came up with a bootloader and I put in my 10.6.3 install disk and it came up with the option to boot to it. So I hit enter, the screen went black, and my computer restarted...so then I found out that you can try a version for "older" processors or something...It's called iBoot Legacy. So I burned that to a disc and booted from it. Then I switched to my install disk again, the option to boot from it came up again, and I hit enter. Then my screen went blue for a minute or two and then it came up with a screen with the apple logo. But on top of it was a bunch of black and white text...it was some kind of error that turned out to be a "kernel panic" which I don't really understand. It gives me the kernel panic every time I try the iBoot Legacy thing..Since I don't know how to fix that, I might just buy a 16gb flash drive and hope it works. I know it might not work for my hardware/netbook but I already paid for the install disc....

Thanks.

Also, I have been trying NetbookCD. I burned it to a CD and booted from it in my DVD drive. It came up with "NetbookCD" , "System Reserved" , and "Windows NTFS". So I took out the CD, put in the Install disc and hit F5. It refreshed and the NetbookCD went away and a new disc came up. It is supposed to say "Mac OS X Install DVD" but instead it says "Apple_HFS"....I have no clue why...and when I select it, it comes up with "Can't find mach_kernel" or something...why does it say Apple_HFS instead of Mac OS X...? I burned the netbookcd again on a couple of other CDs and it does the same thing..

To those of you with the problem of the spinning slash then booting to Windows, or nothing else, press shift repeatedly while the slash is spinning and then it will go to the white boot screen. i got very annoyed by this and finally found a solution after using multiple drives multiple times.

Well I finally have a 10V OSX 10.6.3 thanks to Oscars' guides...

I previously tried over a year ago, and NBI would not load on my 10V with a freshly dual partitioned HD... probably didn't have an MBR or what ever... So I used that HD to get Windows 7 professional working (second partition will be for OS X)...

So I took my original 16GB SSD put it back in, and ran NBI and bam!!! I have a working Hackintosh... with Neo Office 3.2.1

Now I'm doing a time capsule backup (onto a 2nd 16GB Thumb drive), so I can do a 10.6.3 to 10.6.6 mainly to get to the APP store (will use my mini for commuting on the train) so the entertaining apps will help with that...

(I think) I will be running NBI ....351 (from within OS X) I already downloaded 10.6.6 Combo... I will then attempt the update 6.3 to 6.6... Reboot... Run NBI ...351 again (inside of OS X), and hopefully that will work...

If not I still have NMI 0.8.4 RCI on my 1GB thumb drive, and I guess I could use the Time capsule to do a restore...

Thanks again Oscar...
