BlueTooth and Wireless-N should both work

@bmcclure937, I've seen that you have USB Legacy enabled...

I read in several threads that this could cause problems.
Is that solved and I can let it activated?

It can cause conflicts if you have BlueTooth... but I do not

Also, it was fine under OSX 10.5.x but I have not tested much under 10.6.1 so use at your own risk. The only thing it could potentially break is sleep.

What is this USB legacy for?

---------- Post added at 07:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:54 PM ----------

Other question: wasn't there something to do about downgrade BIOS?
How do I know if I've to do that or not?

(...thanks...)

Default Oops!? - 09-25-2009, 06:51 PM

I have been following this thread with great interest and appreciate all of the great advice. I have just received my 10v/N280/160GB/1510/BT. (Actually it was delivered at home and I am on a 24 hour shift at work. NUTS!) I have everything prepared to upgrade memory to 2GB and downgrade BIOS to A04 (or should I upgrade to A09?) I got the SL boxed set from Amazon and a shiny new 16GB USB stick. In preparation for the arrival (sounds like the birth of a child,) I borrowed a friend's MacBook and set up theUSB stick with the OSX SL install image as so nicely outlined by mechdrew, except I used NBM .8.3RC1 instead of the final version of .8.2. Is this going to be a big deal? I won't have access to a Mac again to repatch the USB stick until my friend returns from a two week cruise. I am not that patient! I have no qualms about doing a bit of extra work a la the Crisu thread referenced above to get SL on with .8.3RC1 as I have spent nearly 20 years with various versions of Windows and earlier on the underlying iterations of MS-DOS. I would like to hear opinions from all of the experts on the forum. Will this be doable? Should I wait for the friend and his Mac to return? Should I go for the "No Mac" method with 2 USB sticks? All input is welcome!

If you have BIOS A06 you should downgrade You can check by pressing F2 when the Dell splashscreen shows on boot. We can cross this bridge when we get there, there are guides on how to downgrade online.

This is somewhat tricky to answer. I think your install will work fine, but once you have completed the initial installation, download NetbookInstaller .8.2a and re-run NetbookInstaller so that you can generate a dsdt.aml file and run other options.

I am not sure how it will handle doing a fresh install with .8.3RC1 since there are some minor issues pertaining to dsdt.aml and I do not know how that will affect a clean install

As you can't loose anything beside time (until your friend is back),
I would simply try it.

I also received my 10v a few days ago and did a clean SL install with 0.83 RC1

Everything is working fine, I followed these steps (some solutions for the known bugs also mentioned there):
http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/103783-post125.html
simply start with the install instead of the USB-Stick creating process.

True that Thyraz. There is nothing to lose!

If it messes up, then you can start over when your friend is back. If it is successful then you will not have to wait till he is back!

Thanks for the timely response and encouragement, gentlemen. I believe I will proceed in the morning with the .8.3RC1 and deal with the fallout as you have suggested. If nothing else, I will likely learn something which is part of my motivation for this anyway.

As for the BIOS A09 question, that arose from my misreading this thread: http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/dell...d-updated.html, which refers to the Mini 10. The all important "v" was missing, and that didn't register in my old brain until you called me on it. Sorry!
