Question Hard Stop Blue Screen - 04-12-2011, 05:23 PM

I have been on the Mini 9 continuosly for 3 weeks now.

The last few days I started getting popups saying 'low on virtual memory' we are adding pages.

I've been religious on keeping her cclean, delete browsing, security (MSE) current, updated, defragmented etc.

Yesterday I clicked on a website (I had never been to), it was too sluggish to even scroll down then all of a sudden there was a blue screen that said in typing in the top left corner....Stop hard stop unknown error. There was no number. It didn't go away so I turned it off. When I turn it on now it looks like it is going to load the first flash comes on where it says click 2 or 0 but then it just fades black and stays that way.

It has 1G and 16G. I had nothing plugged in to usb's. XP

I have no idea where to begin trying to fix it.

Please advise me where to begin. jennifer

In case it matters....I just went back (curiosity) to the website where the screen went blue but on my ('03) 4600 with free Avast. Avast popped up and said it had aborted a Trojan. Apparently free MSE on Mini didn't catch it.
The Mini is still useless and I have no idea where to begin.

Avast had a bad update that incorrectly flagged problems with legitimate websites.

That is soooooo irritating! I just did a clean install on my neighbor's Dell 1721 & that is the fastest & a sure fix. I added Avast, CCleaner, Malwarebyte's & Superantispyware.

False positives are always a problem, but I would trust Avast.

I think Windows 7 is more secure if you want to change OS & there is a student upgrade version for $30. You might also look at the OS that I am using. You won't have to worry about Trojans again.

Hope you have success soon.

Thumbs down Reinstall - 04-17-2011, 02:03 PM

I bit the bullet and took it in (due to circumstances) and had xp reinstalled. She said it was wiped clean and she didn't know what had happened.
I took the disks that came with it in but I am dealing with new things on it now.
Thanks all...jen
