Default how to remove windows 7 and install xp. - 07-29-2014, 05:46 PM

Hi guys,

A newbie here, i currently have a dell 1012 mini running windows 7 starter. However i want to use it for doing motor vehicle diagnostics. The software i have wont work on windows 7 so i want to remove it and install windows xp.

My question is how would i do this. I have an unused copy of xp with product key. I also have an external usb cd drive.

Sorry if this seems a stupid question but i am not overly tech savvy.

Thanks in advance

Andy

Start the XP install, choose "Custom" (I think), and get to the menu where you can delete partitions. Delete all the partitions then install XP into the unpartitioned space. You'll probably need drivers from Product Support | Dell US

XP is dead. Microsoft ended support for it back in April(?) thus turning it into a hacker's wet dream come true. Unless you are very astute when it comes to software, security, and/or absolutely have to run XP you should avoid making the switch.

In this particular case, it should be ok, as long as you disable the network.

The software i plan on running will only work on xp or earlier systems hence the need to change. As for online issues it will only be used online for the software installation then the network will be disabled.
