Default Os x - 06-10-2009, 01:54 PM

My 2100 is due to be delivered today.
Has anyone installed OS X on the 2100 yet?

I haven't seen any reports on it yet. Many went for the 10v. If I could get my hands on one, I'd dive head first into it.

I guess, OSX will work with the 2100 after some adjustment. Months ago I wanted to install OSX on the next netbook I buy, but changed my mind since then.

As it seems, OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) will be compatible only with 64 bit processors. You know, the N270 is a 32 bit CPU. This means you have to stuck with 10.5.x forever. This is the main reason for me not to install it. I'm extremly happy with Windows 7.

Of course you can try to install it. I did look after drivers for the touchscreen, but it seems those don't exist (DR_UTS6680).

I would suggest to try a way to get it running with the Mini 9 method (Gizmodo - How To: Hackintosh a Dell Mini 9 Into the Ultimate OS X Netbook - Dell mini 9 hackintosh guide) but I'm not sure if it is even possible to install it because the BIOS of the Mini 9 and the 2100 is far different.

Sorry for not helping so much...

jay, speaking of Windows 7, how much space does the install requiere ? I'm asking because I chose the 16GB version and I wonder if it's enough for Windows 7.

Sorry for the off-topic question.....

No issues. Windows 7 brings nearly all drivers with it. You only need to download the drivers for Realtek audio, for the calibration tool (in case you have ordered your 2100 with touchscreen) and the DELL Bluetooth 365 module. This can happen after installation of Windows 7.

In the last days I have installed a lot of software. Thats why I cannot say exactly how much space Windows 7 needs at the beginning. My Windows folder is now around 10 GB big. But you have to think about some additional Microsoft programs in the program files folder which are also installed during installation. I guess it's getting tight with only 16 GB hard disk space... But I think you should give 7 a chance.

I installed Win 7 on my Mini 9 with a 16gb HD and had to go back to XP because there was little room left. That was after the first beta release so they may have downsized some since then.

You are incorrect. Apple says that it will work with any intel mac, and plenty of the older Intel Macs have 32 bit processors.

You are right. In the beginning of the Apple-Intel-Era there were a lot of 32 bit processors. To err is human, to forgive divine.
