Default HDMI to VGA converter ? anyone try it ? - 05-04-2009, 06:32 AM

Hi,

I'm a new Mini 10 user and I really like it ! It's an amazing net book, small but with a real keyboard and light, but you know already this .
I've only one problem ... I want to use it for screening (for teaching) but my video projector has only VGA input. I've found on Internet the HDFury adapter (http://www.hdfury.com/) and I think it could work with it. Has someone already try in this board ? or maybe a similar (and less expensive  ) solution ?

Thanks a lot !

Nicolas

You may be able to find a solution here:

I've order today a HDFury blue edition (http://www.divineo.fr/cgi-bin/div-fr...ml?id=jGuheKAE).

If someone is interested about it, I will put online a brief test.

Thanks a lot and my apologize for the multiple posts ...

Thanks for posting this. I am also a teacher, and I too bought a Mini 10 to use at work. I'm starting to get worried because the projectors at school have VGA connectors. I'm interested to hear about your results.

I just ordered my mini 10, and I wanted to connect it to my monitor, is hdmi to vga converter necessary? I know I've seen cables that say HDMI to VGA, I was wondering if anyone knew if those worked? Such as this one: http://www.brilliantstore.com/hdmi_c..._cpa_1369.html and this one http://www.bestofferbuy.com/VGA-to-H...campaign=gbase

I don't think this solution can work. HDMI is a digital signal whereas VGA is an analog one, so you need a digital to analog converter.

Hi, I received the HDFury blue edition today and I bought a HDMI to DVI cable. After the first test, everything seems to work perfectly with my projector (DELL 1800 MP). I've fixed the projector resolution to 1280x1024. The HDFury works without external power supply (good point) but the battery life time seems to be lower (I will test it after).

If you have some questions, please ask me.

Nico

HDMI = DVI + audio ina more compact form factor

The DVI standard requires the port to carry an analog VGA signal. Technically an unpowered HDMI to VGA converter should work just fine. This assumes that Dell's implementation of the HDMI on the Mini 9 is truly HDMI compliant.

For me HDMI = DVI-D (D means without analog signal) + audio

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hdmi

So you need a converter and a simple cable can't work.
