Adam, What method did you use to install Snow Leopard? I'm getting a kernel panic during the install process. (Mini 10 - Bios A11).

Default Kernel Panic while copying files to Internal HD - 12-04-2009, 02:14 PM

Every time I try to write to the internal hard drive of my Dell Mini 10, I get a kernel panic. I tried both methods of installing in this thread and both crash when they get to the point where they actually start copying files to the internal hard drive. Actually, a few files are successfully copied, and then it crashes.

I have formatted my internal HD to a single partition as OS X Journaled.

Has anyone else experienced this issue or know of a workaround? Thanks.

BTW - this is the 160GB internal HD - not an SSD drive. Has anyone successfully installed to a Mini10 using the internal hard drive?

Update: I finally got this to work by copying the files manually (using rsync). My Mini10 would kernel panic several times along the way, but I got it done eventually.

Strangely, 1366 does not work for me on my Mini 10. 1024 works great though. Go figure!

I'm happy to have 1024x524 as that is at least usable. But I would love to take advantage of the 1366 x 800. I'm not sure what else to try, though.

For those that got this to work, did you use NetBook Installer or the manual method to get 10.6 running on your Mini 10?

You have to have the HD screen for 1366x768 to work.

Dell Mini 9 | Mac OS X 10.6.5 | 2 GB RAM | 32 GB Buffalo SSD | BIOS A05
Dell Mini 10v | Mac OS X 10.6.5 | 1 GB RAM | 160 GB HDD | BIOS A06

I've patched chameleon so that it can use the correct screen resolution (and thus, OS X can) for the mini 10 / 12. This has not been tested and should only be used if you know how to recover the bootloader (basically, if you have a usb boot disk).

I've only tested this on the mini 9 / 10v (setting the resolution to 1024x600), but it should work fine on the mini 10.

Two files are attached, one for each resolution (hd or std), however I am working on having chameleon auto detect the native lcd resolution.

Once I have the patch working with resolution detection (or just being cleaner), i'll upload the source code..

To install, just run the following command in the terminal
Code:
sudo cp /path/to/boot /boot
I have copied the boot file, installed .kext, but nothing changes on my mini... still only 800x600...

Strange, rebooted once again, now at 1024x576! Excelent!

however, Frontrow will still not run...

Now to get to 10.6.2, still no how-to...
