Default Enable remote disc on Mini 9!!!! - 12-31-2008, 04:24 PM

I almost forgot about this, you can remotely share you cd/dvd drive wirelessly from another computer through OS X. On my imac i went into system preferences/sharing and enabled cd/dvd sharing. Then I entered a terminal script I found here http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=455975 and rebooted. Now the dvd drive from my iMac shows up in the finder under remote disc and mounts on my Mini 9 desktop. Sweet!! You can share a drive from a PC as well from what I hear. Enjoy!

I was wondering if that was possible. I will definately give it a try when I get home. I take it that the script is typed into the mini 9. I've got two iMacs at the house, I'll see if I can set them both up (in case the kids are on one or the other)

Thanks for the find!

Yes, the script is entered into terminal on the Mini 9 and after reboot your all set. I just got done installing Microsoft Office and it works flawlessly.

Great, this will be really handy.

Maybe Type11 could add this to the Installer:

Code:
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser EnableODiskBrowsing -bool true
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser ODSSupported -bool true
Well done userx

This is a really cool fix - shame I've just bought an external DVD drive when I could have used one of my Macs!

You may also want to do a reboot to activate the scripts. It locked up my machine until I did the reboot. After that it works great.

Quick question. Does anyone know if it's possible to boot off the remote disc? I assume it's not..

I agree. The mini has to be set up to access the disc and that require OS X.
