Question Installing OSX without a Mac, help? - 01-21-2012, 07:32 PM

I've been trying to install osx on my mini 10v for the past couple days now. I have done this before using my old iMac and it worked flawlessly. I then gave the laptop to my father who insisted on putting vista onto it. Well I just recieved the laptop back and am wanting to put Snow Leopard onto it, but I have since sold my iMac, so I have no access to a Mac. I followed the guide posted on these forums about using Transmac but with no success. I have the A04 BIOS. Im using a windows 7 64bit computer. The Dell refuses to startup from the small usb drive with the NIB_084RC1.img. Am I doing something wrong?

Did you use this tutorial? http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/mac-...mac-guide.html ? If you look closely at the bios pics you can see he is using bios A06. I had problems using transmac too. I had to use a trial of another windows program called Macdrive 9 to format my usb drives hfs+ and then use transmac to format with disc image. If you still have problems booting NIB 084RC1 try hitting f12 at the splash screen. Select the usb drive and hit enter. While it is starting up press the shift button repeatedly and it should boot. I found that even though I had the USB as the first boot device, it still would not boot without doing this. And definitely use at least a 16gb usb stick to put the Snow Leopard image on. I used an 8gb drive and transmac completed the transferring the image but I could not get it to boot at all.

Thank You a thousand times over! I was finally able to boot from the USB by pressing the shift button. I dont see why they didnt add that part in the tutorial. Im using an external HDD with 500GB so space for OSX shouldnt be a problem. I still need to format it with the disk image though, at least I'm that much closer to having OSX back onto my mini. Thank You again!
