Default Where's the serial number? - 12-08-2011, 04:48 AM

Hi guys.

I have a Mini-9 purchased a few years ago that I haven't even looked at for a while as the SSD packed it in.

Just decided to dig it out and find a replacement SSD, and also thought it might be wise to slap some info about it, such as serial number, into EverNote.

The words "Serial Number" are not to be found anywhere on the back of the unit. Is "Express Service Code" the same as serial number?

Also, any recommendations for a supplier of a 32GB SSD? In Australia would be nice, but anywhere who will ship will do.

The "Service Tag" is what Dell uses as a serial number. It is displayed in the BIOS as well as on a label on the bottom, but it may have faded. The service tag is a 7-character alphanumeric code.

My Digital Discount is a good source for a Runcore SSD. The 16 GB is now only $50 vs. the $70 shown. I might have to get one myself at those prices .

Thanks for the SSD tip.

I'm accustomed to buying from Amazon.com and it seems their prices are the same as MyDigitalDiscount. Also I have a long history with Amazon and have always been extremely well looked after by them on the rare occasions something went wrong.

If I've copied you correctly this is the SSD I need:
Amazon.com: 32GB RunCore Pro IV Light 50mm Mini PCI-e PATA SSD RCP-IV-M5032-MC: Electronics

I might as well also buy a RAM upgrade while I'm at it. when I type "RAM Upgrade for Dell Inspiron Mini 9" into Amazon I get this page:
Amazon.com: RAM Upgrade for Dell Inspiron Mini 9: Electronics

Lots of different RAM packs there, with a wide range of prices. Obviously I'd like to buy the cheapest that is fully compatible and has no known problems, so recommendations or warnings most welcome.

That SSD is from My Digital Discount via Amazon. Too bad it doesn't qualify for Super Saver shipping for you. I would check shipping & sales tax from both & get the cheapest. Both work well.

As for the RAM, I like Crucial but see no reason not to get the Dell.

Looks like you have your Christmas gifts picked out.
