Default Great Review.. some questions if you will... - 06-12-2010, 12:36 PM

1. Is the screen easy to see when outdoors? Can the brightness be adjusted for when your indoors and don't want to go blind(er)?

2. Does the Dell UI prevent you from doing anything, like adding animated backgrounds and stuff?

3. Does the Dell UI support pinch to zoom and what not?

* My experience with dell in the past is that they tend to add on tons of things you neither want nor need onto the native OS and one always has to find a way to remove things to keep them from interfering with the native OS.

4. Do you think that all Android releases will be delayed on this device? Or will it stay permanently at 2.2?

5. Would you say that this is a triumph? Would you make a note of its huge success? Would it be hard to overstate your satisfaction?

Thanks!

If you could do us a favor, and benchmark the thing using Quadrant (I don't know if it's free or if it even runs on 1.6, I just know it's an android benchmarking tool) and post it's results here, that would be fantastic.

Of course, running it through fps2d couldn't hurt to see it doesn't suffer from the same bug that the EVO and Droid (when first updated to 2.1) have

1. Is the screen easy to see when outdoors? Can the brightness be adjusted for when your indoors and don't want to go blind(er)?

- Yes you can adjust the brightness!

2. Does the Dell UI prevent you from doing anything, like adding animated backgrounds and stuff?

- There are apps that replace the ome screen experience, "better cut" is one that springs to mind.

3. Does the Dell UI support pinch to zoom and what not?

* My experience with dell in the past is that they tend to add on tons of things you neither want nor need onto the native OS and one always has to find a way to remove things to keep them from interfering with the native OS.
- Pinch to Zoom is all down to the apps, the web browser pinches to zoom and Google Maps will do with 2.2

4. Do you think that all Android releases will be delayed on this device? Or will it stay permanently at 2.2?

- If they need to apply their own UI every time it will probably be delayed, although by the time another version comes out the chances are there will be methods to update manually

5. Would you say that this is a triumph? Would you make a note of its huge success? Would it be hard to overstate your satisfaction?

I do what I must, because I can

Currently its CPWH and O2 only, and they will only sell models locked to O2.

Dell should be getting it soon though.

Default My DELL Streak review - 06-16-2010, 02:31 PM

My DELL Streak review

  • Pros: Incredible large screen, feature-rich phone, long battery life, instinctive and intuitive to use.
The keyboard magically appears on screen whenever needed and is superbly designed with a numeric keypad included.
Cons: No drawbacks that I can find apart from slow synchronisation with Microsoft Outlook. No doubt this will be fixed with the forthcoming free Android version update.

Summary: First let me say the Dell Streak is simply superb. If it were possible I'd unhesitatingly give it a 10 out of 10 star rating. The initial quick start guide is enough to get started and there is a very comprehensive 140 page manual in a folder on the device itself.

Working as a computer technician fixing PC's running Microsoft Windows, the Streak is the perfect mobile office and entertainment centre device for my daily needs. I've never been a fan of the Apple Mac world and neither the iPhone nor the iPad offered the type of comprehensive 'all-in-one' gadget required.

With the Streak I can phone, browse the net and email while on the move in any location. The design is perfect with buttons all well placed and easy and responsive to use.

The keyboard magically appears on screen whenever needed and is superbly designed with a numeric keypad included. It makes text messaging so simple rather than a chore. By the way, I cannot understand people who want to use their thumbs to type on a keyboard – pointless or what?

The 5mp camera gives fine, sharp images although slightly over saturated in colour while the camcoder facility produces excellent footage without over-vivid colours.

The Android apps are abundant and frequently free. The addition of a text to speech app to Google Maps turns the Streak into a fantastic sat nav machine. The option to use a Google Earth overhead view while navigating and Street View when nearing your destination is simply awesome.

Browsing the internet is just a joy with web pages appearing exactly as they would on your PC. Photos displayed on screen look stunning and all sound and picture content is easily accessed and controlled. Email is easy to set up and synchronisation with Microsoft Outlook's Calendar, Contacts and Inbox works brilliantly if a little slow.

Incredible large screen, feature-rich phone, long battery life, instinctive and intuitive to use - the Dell Streak is absolutely outstanding. It's twice as good as I dared to hope it would be! It's the ideal device for anyone wanting something that at last fills the gap between gadgets like the iPad and the Smartphone.

Finally, by coincidence and unbeknown to me, my son who is far more 'tech-savvy' than I am, also bought a Streak on the same day I got mine. He is equally impressed and delighted with it.

For £35 a month over 2 years and free from O2, with unlimited web access and 600 call minutes, the Streak has really gone clear. A true bargain and not to be missed!

I purchased a Dell Streak earlier this week, and I have to say I love it, I actually fell in love with this new gadget when I saw it. Sod the iPhone!

Though I do have one question! How on earth do I get the Dell Streak to connect to the Dell Suite that I downloaded? Laptop operating system is Windows 7.. Just incase you need to know. =/
