I've been wanting to do this upgrade for a while, but Dell's price quote on this part is way too costly. I found someone locally who is selling them for $300 ea. I asked him if I could get a discount if I was to purchase at least 2 at a time, and was told that the price could be reduced to $275. I'm sure if I can get someone else to buy one with me I could have it reduced to $250 a piece. If anyone is interested, please let me know. I really like my Mini 1010, because it is easy to travel with, due to it's compact size, and was thinking of buying a newer model, but unfortunately Dell is no longer making them this small, and the other Mini models don't come with the HDMI port, which is what I like most about this particular model. I can connect it to either my plasma HDTV or my home theater receiver/projector setup via the HDMI port and watch movies on my 155" diagonal screen.

Mine came with the Intel Atom Z530 (1.60GHz/533MHz FSB/512K Cache) with 1 GB RAM, and by upgrading the daughterboard to model # R031P, I'll have the same processor, but with 2 GB's of DDR2 RAM, which I believe is sufficient to allow me to play videos/movies without any lag.

click on my link above I paid $160 (USD)...shipped free, they are in CA. and I am in NY

BTW: the lag is a lot less and I can run photoshop much better now and I think that once I upgrade to a 7200rpm drive, between that and the 2gb board I got the Mini should be much more useable than most, the real key is to go through MSCONFIG and try to reduce as many background/startup processes as possible because no matter what its still only 1.6ghz and its still an Atom Processor

Never thought I would be jealous of a Celeron (lol)

Default a little confused - 07-30-2012, 01:57 AM

I just picked up a used mini 1010 from a buddy of mine. It works pretty well, but now im looking at upgrading the RAM. I know that the 1010 has the mothrboard/daughterboard on most models, at least I think its most. I read someplace that some have the regular 200 pin so-dimm ram. When I look the service tag on dell.com for replacement parts it does list a 1gb 200pin stick. Can you not upgrade ram on any of the 1010 (non v, i think)? Is this just my wishful thinking. Sorry to resurrect and old post but I'm looking for a little help. Thanks!

ALL 1010's are NOT upgradeable by a 200 pin chip of ANY kind.....ONLY by replacing/upgrading the daughter board/processor...if your service tag shows that info then you DO NOT have a 1010 you have a 1011 but I can promise you the ONLY way to upgrade a REAL 1010 to 2gb is to replace the daughterboard/processor.....SORRY..

PS. Welcome to the forum...

BTW. If you do NOT have a Z520 or Z530 processor and you have an N270 or N280 processor then its a 1011 and NOT a 1010, the 1011's can be upgraded by replacing a chip..if you have an N450 processor its a 1012 and if you have a N455 processor its a 1018, all of which are upgradeable with a chip....but NOT the 1010

Thanks for the reply! I definately have a z530 processor, and in the bios my model comes up as a 1010, but I dunno where it pulls that info from. I'm sure its only upgradable with the daughterboard/processor deal, I just found it strange that when I looked it up on dell it came up with the 200-pin replacement part. I tried talking to a customer service agent, but they werent able to tell me much more than the mini 10 maxes out at 1gb. Like I said, it was all wishful thinking. Thanks for the info!

Do a search on Ebay for R031P and you will find it.
