I have a Dell Mini 1010 w/ 1GB Ram, but I really want to upgrade the ram to 2GB. It has been hard getting all the answers to my questions. Parts needed - is it just the daughterboard or is the RAM additional. Today I called Dell and they said mine could be upgraded easily, then no it cannot. Talk with a teck in India, I think, he didn't sound very knowledgeable about what I wanted to do. My Mini 1010 Service tag is 95C85K1 - could you help me know how and what parts I need to do this delicate operation?
Thanks ww

wmwillett, the RAM on the 1010 is combined with the processor on a daughterboard. The only way to upgrade the RAM is to buy a new daughterboard from Dell, and people are quoted over $500 for this. Forget it.

I went to the outlet store and found the 1010 with vista with 2 gig of memory. I have the mini 1010 with tv tuner and gps so I swapped the boards. I now have the mini with a 2 gig of ram and all the bells and whistles and 1 mini w/no tv tuner or gps with 1 gig of ram. The total cost was 350 but I do have 2 working mini's instead of 1 and a mobo with a gig of ram setting in a drawer

Default Upde 2Gb with GPS/TV/BT... Possible ? - 11-30-2010, 10:16 AM

Hello.
Question about this upgrade to mainboard model with 2Gb.
I have a Mini 10 with GPS + TV + BT options.
If i change mainboard with the 2GB one, are thoses options still ok ?
Because i supposed that up to 2GB was impossible because placement was reserved to GPS option, for exemple.

Anyone can confirm it's possible to keep GPS/TV etc... on Mini10 with 2GB mainboard ?

Thanks !

Yes, you can still keep tv tuner,GPS and BT options. You just have to find a 530 processor with w/2gig of ram. I had to buy a mini with Vista the 530 processor and 2 gig of ram and do a swap.

it is NOT the main board (motherboard) that you need, what you need is a 2gb daughterboard with the z530 processor on it because the processor and memory are both soldered on, unfortunately Dell will not sell them, I actually had a tech in the online chat one day that told me that they had a refurbed one that he would have to get the supervisors ok to sell and then went on to tell me it would be $554 (USD).....that ended our conversation

PS. The part number you need is: "R031P"..when you get one get one for me and I will pay top price....within reason..

I know this is nearly a year late, but could I ask if you know the daughter board part with the TV tuner? Like you, I am a bit determined to do this, but in all reality it is probably not worth the cost or effort. I thought I had ordered the computer with the 2GB of RAM, but that was not the case. Also, do you know a good specific number to call dell with for the part?
Thanks, ww
