Question Can I upgrade inspiron mini 10 RAM to 2 Gig - 12-15-2009, 03:43 PM

I just purchased the mini 10 and while I like it, I feel it's a little slow at times. Can I upgrade the RAM to 2 Gigs and if so what type or model number do I buy?

Thanks,

GJ

Do you have a 10 or a 10v? I think the model numbers are 1010 and 1011, respectively.

The 10v can be upgraded with normal laptop DDR2 RAM (but the RAM slot is awkward to reach). The 10 has its RAM and CPU soldered on a daughterboard. So, the 10 can only be upgraded with an expensive, hard-to-find, Mini 10-specific Dell part.

You can call up Dell parts department and you can get it through them. Just describe what you want, they can figure it out.

It will cost more than you paid for the Mini, The processor is also on the daughter board so you will be paying for that as well...Good Luck and let us know how much?..

Got a direct non-india number? I'd be glad to make the call and post the results/pn's/cost if someone gets me the number...

Irrenartz,

It's not so much that the part is hard to find, rather, I'm guessing that most of the people you've talked to (India/consumer sales/consumer tech support) lack the knowledge/training or whatever to find what you're needing.

I'm out "sick" for the next 2 days (returning to work on Wed 12/23/09), else I could post the part number now.. So unless you've found what you need already, or want to use what I'm saying here, then just wait till then and I'll post it if it exists as a separate component.

I don't know wether or not you got a chance to see the parts list I'd posted several days ago.. I did one for each model of system talked about on this forum.

The motherboard part numbers for the Mini10's that have daughterboards (yes, some don't) are as follows: 5RXKK, 8TPN5, C971R, C973R, VVRDP

These are (at Dell) referred to as PRIMARY part numbers. Unless their application doesn't allow it, though I can't think of a good reason why it wouldn't.. All they would have needed to have done is find out which motherboard it is you've got.. then to open the BOM utility on the left side of this web-app, put in the Primary part number, and *IF* it is actually available as a separate part.. then it would show up as a COMPONENT part off of the Primary. Then its just a matter of looking that component part up on IDD and producing a quote..

Whole thing should take only a few minutes to do.. You can give them another shot, or just wait till Wed and (it should be rather slow that day), I'll post up what I find, &/or make you a quote if you need it.

I happen to have a 2Gb daughter board for the Dell Mini 1010.

The board was working fine when it was removed from the computer. The screen broke and I decided not to replace it. I am going to use the parts in other projects. If you are interested in it send me a offer by PM

Default Part Numbers for Dell Mini 10 Memory/Processor Upgrades - 12-23-2009, 04:41 AM

I just got off the phone with Dell Technical Support and they provided me with the part numbers for the daughter boards that will work with my Mini 10 (Inspiron 1010). According to my Service Tag, I have a system board (motherboard) that is Part #: W050N

My system board has Wireless N, WWAN, GPS, Bluetooth and ATSC TV Tuner. I assume that the daughter boards will work with all of the Mini 10's, but you may have to contact Dell Technical Support at (800) 624-9896 to verify that the part numbers are valid for your specific Service Tag.

Valid Processor/Memory Boards:

Part #: P787N
- Intel Atom Z520 (1.33GHz/533MHz FSB/512K Cache), 1GB DDR2 RAM

Part #: K029P
- Intel Atom Z530 (1.60GHz/533MHz FSB/512K Cache), 1GB DDR2 RAM

Part #: R031P
- Intel Atom Z530 (1.60GHz/533MHz FSB/512K Cache), 2GB DDR2 RAM

I do not have a price for these parts yet. I will call Dell sales in the morning, but I bet they will be in the $200 - $300 range.

Hope this helps.

Wow, if you estimate is even close, that would be allot for just a daughterboard upgrade.. You can then just as well sell your old mini and buy a new mini 10.. lol Im also looking for the 2gig part.. damn.. lol

Let us know once they give you price on it!
