Even if the SSD had TRIM support, the lack of AHCI in the Mini 9 means, as far as I can tell, "no TRIM for you!". Intel has a tool that can do the equivalent on Windows systems that lack TRIM, but it works only on Intel SSDs.

I would settle for some manual process that involved removing the drive and putting into my desktop and running a utility or whatever, at this point...

Default Equivalent of TRIM or wiper on SSDs in mini 9? - 04-15-2010, 06:17 PM

Hello- I too am interested in this problem, and don't see a solution posted yet.

Is there any way to restore a slowing SSD on the Dell Mini 9, such as

updating the BIOS?
using an alternate utility?
pulling the ssd out and connecting to another PC?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

You can try the utility mentioned on the following page - I have not tried it myself:

Q. How can I reset a solid state disk (SSD) to a fully erased, clean state?

As far as I know, the first generations (RCP-I-M50XX-C) did not support TRIMM but the T-Style (RCP-IV-P50XX-C) and the Light (RCP-IV-M50XX-C) should have full TRIMM/Garbage Collection support through the firmware. I am going to speak with RunCore and see if I can get a definitive answer on this. I will be sure to share any information they give me. Hope this helps!

Default no stutter under linux ubuntu 10.04 - 07-08-2010, 10:04 PM

I have been running Dell Mini 9s in the family since they were first producted. I have installed the latest Ubuntu on all of them whenever a new version has become availalble.

I noticed that linux netbooks running SSD drives do not suffer from the phenomenon of "stuttering" or pausing from time to time. However I have observed windows xp netbooks doing this. Could it simply be the effects of a poorly designed O/S?

Looks like only the Tstyle and the Pro IV light SSD's support TRIMM.

Default Utility to reset ssd on Mini 9? - 08-23-2010, 08:51 PM

Thank you for your replies. As I understand, the Mini 9 cannot support TRIM.

The question, as also posted by Anachronym on p2 of this thread, is whether there is another utility that can reset an SSD in the Mini 9. Although not ideal, I wouldn't mind pulling the SSD out and hooking it to another PC once in a while to TRIM if necessary- is this possible? I did see the freeware utility referenced above (thank you!)- has anyone tried it? I haven't bought the Mini 9 yet- am reluctant to do so unless I can reset the ssd when it starts to bog down as AnandTech predicts and others have posted/complained about.

I (think I) want the Mini 9 due to its complete silence and 2Gb RAM, with a silent SSD.

I see the newer 1012 is fanless- just starting to look into this- I assume there are comparisons to the Mini 9 here, just haven't found one yet...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
