That doesn't work.

Does your sound work in any other OS? Are you sure you used an actual RETAIL DVD and not a hackintosh one? A hackintosh one could have put conflicting audio drivers on your machine. You seem to be the only person out of hundreds that is having this problem. It's got to be either bad hardware, or somewhere along the way, you deviated from the instructions (such as not using a retail disc).

I got my audio working by installing an old audio app which I had used in the past prior to doing the type 11 install

Mmm, so you probably had remnants of the old sound driver conflicting with the new one.. Kind of what I figured was going on here.

Not really - I'm doing a clean fresh install. I just used something that worked for me in an old install attempt since nothing else worked.
