Default Audio EFI Strings - 12-29-2008, 05:04 AM

Thought I would start a topic for this as I think this might solve the audio wake issue. Here is my post from another topic

On the audio problem I really think the solution is EFI Strings. The problem I am having is I cannot get the xml I have to go to hex code using gfxutil. It says there is a problem. I used the example to make it from http://forum.netkas.org/index.php?PHPSE ... 104.0.html and the graphics one I did (which did not work but is appears to be known issue on dells) worked fine to convert from xml to hex. I see nothing wrong with it.

BTW i double checked with those on the EFI Boot forum and the method I am using DOES support EFI strings is com.apple.boot file on EFI part. If anybody has any ideas please fire away. I have used the tools and gotten the values we need which are below now if I can only get them into hex for the com.apple.boot file ;-)

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x1b,0x0)</key>
   <dict>
      <key>PinConfigurations</key>
      <string></string>
      <key>built-in</key>
      <string>0x00</string>
      <key>layout-id</key>
      <string>0x0000000c</string>
      <key>revision-id</key>
      <string>0x00000002</string>
      <key>subsystem-id</key>
      <string>0x000002b0</string>
      <key>subsystem-vendor-id</key>
      <string>0x00001028</string>
      <key>vendor-id</key>
      <string>0x00008086</string>
   </dict>
</dict>
</plist>

drat I put the boot file into the EFI part with that hex code and took out appleHDA and HDAEnabler from the S/L/E folder and put in the original AppleHDA from 10.5.x and it does not work.... Humm really thought that would get it. Anyone else give it a go? Maybe I could try the boot file on S/P/SC/ and see if it works though from reading about efi booter it should look at efi part first for that file.

I have a feeling it's just our Dell's. Had the same issue with GFX strings. I tried both files, no luck at all.

you still need to have the modified appleHDA but you can get rid of hdaenabler

Hi,

Have you read this from netkas:

EFI Audio

Known to be supported: ALCxxx and Sigmatel (thanks to macgirl). Not sure about the others. However, this guide is mainly for ALCxxx users!

Thanks to tom3q, now we can add support for ALCxxx audio cards (and others!) without using ALCinject.kext. However, you still have to use modified AppleHDA.kext.

In brief, you will have to have a working sound before switching to the EFI method. For best results, use Taruga's AppleHDA patcher to get AppleHDA.kext modified the right way. Refer to the main topic dedicated to that patcher: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=32859

Not sure if this is why it fail... maybe you did not patch AppleHDA properly?
