Missing a connector, the WWAN bay is useless for many of us anyway. All you would need is a PCIe extender LIKE THIS and a little scrap ribbon cable for soldering to maybe create a 90-degree turn.
If your Mini needed to go back to Dell for service, you could just remove the extender and put your original STEC SSD back in.

A great idea to turn it sideways and have the full 128 gigs without having to do any shaving of the case. However if your going to use a ribbon cable to make that happen, why not set it up so that you can connect 2 SSD's to the end connectors and perhaps the mini-9 will read them both as a single drive or worst case it wont work and youll still be stuck with the 128 gig drive....if you bought one for about $390 not including S&H. Remember to get the PATA model since the mini-9 does not support SATA.

Lets see a 64 gig "half length" card for mini-9 is about $220 not including S&H and the 128 gig drive is only $170 more. you end up with a card that is able to hold twice as much info for less than twice the cost. Sounds like a deal to me. But I'm a poor broke dude so saving up for the drive and getting a dremel will take time. For those that can afford it, I say go for it and enjoy the extra space for whatever your doing with your mini-9.

I cant seem to get the screw mounts out of the board by a soldering iron. Anyone else have any other ideas to get them out?

You need to have a good iron that can put out enough heat, also it may help to hold the tip at the base where the mount is soldered on for 10-15 seconds, then move it to the opposite side of the same post to make sure you get it evenly heated so the solder softens - yours might not be getting hot enough, or just not holding it down long enough perhaps?

If the part number for the mini-pci-e socket can be found (or a suitable replacement), an l-adapter would be far from impossible.
