Default Sprint to offer Dell Mini 1012 and Inspiron 11z with WiMAX - 10-20-2010, 05:06 PM

US carrier Sprint are set to offer the Dell Mini 1012 and Dell Inspiron 11z with dual 3G and 4G capable hardware. The models on offer feature beefed up configurations, including a 6-cell battery and Wireless N card on top of all the hardware needed to connect to the 3G and 4G networks across the US.

The Mini 1012 is available from October 31st, and the Inspiron 11z from November 14th at Sprint stores and the Sprint websites. The Mini 1012 is free on a 2 year contract while the Inspiron 11z is just $150 on the same length contract.

I know Sprint is rolling out 3g/Wimax on their network. Also they claim that they own cell networks, not piggy backing on other networks like Verizon/ATT.

It will be nice if I can remove my AR9825, put 3g/Wimax/wifi ifit is available on my Mini 1012.

Sprint does indeed have its own network, just like AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile, and Sprint uses the term "4G" to refer to WiMax. You can buy a WiMax-capable card today and use it if your area supports WiMax and you subscribe to the service. Sprint charges extra for access to WiMax. Clear is another WiMax provider (network only, not a phone service.)

Hey guys, I have a question, do you think the network cards in these two devices are interchangeable? LIke if we wanted to enable the 3/4G wimax on a mini 1012 using the card from the 11z, would the HB 95 802.11n Wireless Networking card inthe mini work in the 11z? Would have to open both up obviously, but don't want to even attempt if it won't work. Any ideas?
