Any new updates on fixing this issue? This has started to happen with my wifes Vostro A90. One thought I had was a battery limiter, like on my IBM that only allows the battery to charge to 95%, anyone seen anything like this for Dells or know of a 3rd party app that does that?

Well, talked to Dell yesterday about the problem. Looks like I'll be sending it in to get fixed. Will report back with what they do/don't fix and if the issue is resolved.

Just got the netbook back from dell, motherboard replaced and it works again as it used to. They also tried to apply the following drivers, though I think I had most of them - in case any one wants to try and see if this resolves their problems. I'm on W7.

My Mini 9 was defective out of the box. Would run on AC power for about the first 10 minutes then switch to battery until the battery was dead. I would have to leave the computer off and plugged in. In this condition the battery would charge up.
But when I turned the computer on it would start all over again. I sent it to
Dell with a very exacting and thorough description of the problem. I got the computer back with a new battery and charger. IDIOTS!!! I could have told them it was a motherboard problem. Needless to say the same problem was there after I got it back. Talked to some swami in India who wanted me to send it back to Texas again. That's where I drew the line and insisted they send me a brand new computer. And they did. And the new one does not have the charging problem.

Don't know if anybody is still following this thread BUT I've experienced something simaler to this EXCEPT it only happens when I'm at work and utilizing a inverter to power the Dell supplied charger which in turn is plugged into my netbook. After 3 nites of working it takes the netbook about 24 hours at most times to recover. I discharge it until the 2nd alarm shuts it off then plug it in and let it recharge while I sleep. Might have something to do with the output of the inverter causing the netbook to suddenly stop maintaining the battery. As soon as possible I'll get a different inverter and try to replicate the problem, For all I know its the inverter by it self and discharging it then recharging it somehow fixes it. Not very technical I know But just wondering if anybody else has experienced this.

My Mini may have been bitten by this bug too. I replaced the battery charger. I also dismantled the DM9 and replaced the power jack and cable too.

I was using the DM9, and plugged in the Battery charger to recharge the battery. Only it wouldn't charge. Eventually the battery drained and now the DM9 doesn't turn on. After reading this thread I am going to leave the charger on overnight. I'm crossing my fingers that maybe that will help. If I get it to come back on what is the fix? Is it the BIOS version? I don't remember if I upgraded my Bios or not. I am currently running Ubuntu 10.04. It has 2 Gig of Ram, and Supertalent 32gb SSD.

I just bought my first Mini 9 in more than a year after doing 13 Snow Leopard conversions for my kids and grandkids. Got it for $135 shipped from eBay minus the SSD. Had a stack from the others so no prob there.

First issue was installing a 2GB of Hynix ram which wasn't recognized, which has never happened to me. I'm running on the original 1GB now. Then, like everyone else's experience, once the battery is charged it only runs off the battery unless shut down, plugged back in and restarted. But I guess that's the way it's going to stay. No way I'm replacing the motherboard. Good thing the battery life is so long.

This solution worked for me.



01. Turn off laptop.
02. Unplug AC power.
03. Remove battery.
04. Replace AC power.
05. Turn on laptop, allow OS to boot.
06. Once logged in to the machine, perform a normal shut down.
07. Unplug AC power.
08. Replace battery.
09. Replace AC power.
10. Turn on laptop, allow OS to boot. The battery should once again be charging as normal.

Hey... I own a mini (no warranty) with the same problem and I have a question: isn't there a way to stop the charge (software) at a predefined level? (I saw something similar to IBM)

I have not seen a way to stop at a predefined level, but the Dell Battery Utility lets you disable charging.
