I've got this same issue. I have a ticket into TS and have sent pictures over email. I bet I have to send the system back for "repair". I'm going to ask for a replacement and see what happens.

Lovely... just got off of dell's online chat ... and I was told 'It looks like a Dell Ubuntu problem' ... which is rather entertaining, considering at least one person here hitting this from an XP side. Even better... mine *came* with Ubuntu, but was running Gentoo at the time I saw this start happening. Should I test it a bit under Ubuntu, jump through their hoops, and go from there, or should I get on the phone with Dell Support and nag until they actually listen :?:

EDIT: Should be getting my box soon enough, didn't take any real nagging, just a bit of time on the phone... I have to say, compared to a) online chat, and b) every other company's phone support I've dealt with... that was one of the best support calls I've had... they actually seemed to know something about what they were talking about. Despite this hiccup with the hardware... I'd still recommend the mini 9 over any other netbook I've worked with (including the mini 10).

Default I have good news, and I have bad news... - 05-13-2009, 02:17 AM

Well, while phone side of Dell's tech support has served me well compared to what I would usually expect from any company, I'm a little disappointed with their repair center. I just got my mini 9 back (aka: the good news) after a week without it, and it has the same problem it left with (aka: the bad news). Talking to phone support, the log he had of the repairs they did consisted of.... replacing the hard drive and a clean install of the factory Ubuntu OS, which matches the"Other" and "OS Restore" boxes checked off on the "Corrective Repair Action" section of the form letter that was included in the box with my laptop (the explanation line for "Other" is blank). The logical source of the problem, the motherboard, was left untouched. Under the phone tech's recommendation, I updated to A05 (which from everything I can find hasn't been "officially" released externally by Dell yet) and am still seeing the issue. It would seem blatantly apparent to me that the motherboard should have been replaced the first time I sent it in, but because that didn't happen (I have to assume the techs at the repair site failed to even read the problem description, because other than that, only sheer stupidity could lead a technician to replace a hard drive when given the problem that has been described to them, and from them back to me to verify it, multiple times) ... I get to wait 1-2 days to receive a new power adapter and a new battery (despite both working perfectly outside of the motherboard-controlled switching between them). After that, I suspect, I'll be seeing another week or so without my laptop while it goes in ... again.

I apologize for rambling... I will reiterate that their phone techs have done a great job, at least. While in my last post I stated that I'd still recommend the Mini 9, I can't say quite as much for their repair services as things stand. If it wasn't a laptop, I'd be asking them to just send me a motherboard and I'd send them back the one I replace with it.

I've had the same issue for 2 or 3 months and have just dealt with it because I don't feel like sending it back in. I've run several versions of linux on it, but not windows. If they actually do fix it for you please post how.(also more of an annoyance, but still battery related, the battery doesn't report power draw)

Default Mini 9 won't charge unless its turned on. - 05-25-2009, 05:47 PM

Something has happened to my mini and now it suddenly won't charge unless its turned on, and sometimes won't charge even when it is turned on!

I've tried multiple batteries and multiple chargers.

Windows XP.

The battery tool says everything is happening. I may run my battery dry then charge it over night to see if its just harcging without the charging light coming on.

If you're running BIOS A05, try downloading BatteryBar and see what it reports. I find that with earlier BIOSes the Mini does not report charging current.

ok so battery bar is saying my battery is discharging, its at 40% and I have the AC plugged in.

The screen brightens when I plug it in so I guess that means the BIOS is reporting that its plugged in but just no charging is taking place.
