Thank you so much, robert,
I upgrade my 5530 KM266 A0 to R1D06 success, and solved my SIM card compatibility (disconnection then halt) issue.

Is this modded 5530 only for US version?
I have got the following HW and wondering if it is worth to give it a try (having serious stability issues with WWAN at the moment):

Product Number........... KRD 131 14/103
Revision................. R1J
Software Product......... CRH10627
Software Version......... R1B/1
Build Date/Time.......... 2008-07-30 11:40
Model.................... D5530
Customization Product.... CXC 172 5864/103
Customization Version.... R1E

What is your experience with this mod? I can see that my revision is slightly different (R1J) and software version quite uncommon (R1B/1). It is UK dell mini 10, which came with Vodaphone trial sim.

OK, actually I could not resist and gave it a try

First of all: updater will work as well on Windows 7, you just have to make sure it is running from elevated command prompt (run as Administrator) with -t COMX option (X is modem port number, for me it had to be actual modem port, not management one).
It is also important that "WWAN AutoConfig" and "Mobile Broadband" services cannot be running - otherwise they will hog access to modem port and updater will not recognize device.

I started update process, it uploaded firmware just fine, but after *device reboot* it just got stuck at "awaiting for device to perform firmware update" - eventually it went to 100% and I got an error that device didn't came back after update.

At this point, I was pretty sure everything is over However, suprisingly device is still alive!
AT*EVERS shows now new R1D06 firmware revision and 3g connection still works - I will test stability and report back

OK, I can tell now that firmware upgrade did the trick for me. No more hanged/stalled connections, BSODs, device is not 'disappearing' from device manager after sleep any more, no more crashing of Windows 7 WWAN manager (when Disconnect button doesn't work and you have to reboot to get it back up and running again)!

Many thanks to Robert, Zero and other people involved for this great work. I recommend this fix to anyone facing problems with WWAN like mine.

It is pretty sad though, that this firmware has been available for almost two years and Dell still has done nothing so far to make it widely available - so we have to rely on unofficial hacks (looks like many people are facing issues with WWAN).

Thanks again!

Smile Successful update - 07-26-2010, 07:59 PM

Just for the record, I also successfully updated the 5530 firmware in my Danish Mini 10 from version R1B/1 to R1D06 using Robert's patched updater under Windows 7.

The exact steps were:

  1. Located the COM port (in my case COM3) used by the device in the device manger.
  2. Stopped the "WWAN AutoConfig" and "Mobile Broadband" services.
  3. Opened a command prompt with admin privileges.
  4. Ran command FW_R1D06_forcedupdate.exe -t COM3
  5. Ignored message about compatibility.
  6. Waited around 15 minutes until "update successful" appeared.
  7. Shut down and started up again.
  8. Upgraded the 5530 driver to the one linked to in the "Windows 7 drivers for the Dell Mini 10 (1010)" sticky.

Before the update, I was experiencing occasional device or driver hangs, where the modem would lose connectivity while still looking like it was online, and attempts to disconnect/reconnect from the network would result in a BSOD a few minutes later.

So far no problems.

Thank you all very much.

Updated firmware on my M11x (installed dell 5530 card) - as per Oken's exact steps.

All worked fine new firmware flashed - have not tested totally yet will test and see how it performs over the next few days. Used to get the random disconnects were all talking about.

Don't make a AT+RESTORE to the updated card.
I can't connect to my card now.

I had to buy a new UMTS card which is working really good.

Best regards
Zero
