Thanks oken, that's great. Update completed and much more stable already.

I did have to use Windows XP to perform the update - I tried stopping the services in Windows 7 as per the instructions elsewhere in the thread, but I still got an error part way through the update process.

I am also looking for the file "FW_R1D06_forcedupdate.exe" . The file that oken posted isn't avalible any more.
Please does anyone have the file somewhere?

I've uploaded file on my server.
Please remember, that this update don't work on Windows 7 (I tried it). It works on Windows Xp also as a virtual machine (I have virtual Xp on Windows 7 and it works fine ). Good luck!

your link for "Firmware Update Mod for Dell 5530" is not working more. I have downloaded the original file from DELL Dell_Wireless-5530-HSPA-Mini_A01_R212325.exe and extract then (D5530_R1D06.exe).
My ERICSSON F3507g WWAN adapter is Lenovo branding and have the hardware ID "USB\Vid_0bdb&Pid_1900&Rev_0000&Mi_05&Os_NT" in device manager.
When you run D5530_R1D06.exe it shows me the current status, but will not update the firmware (error: "The install package doesn't support the installed Mobile Broadband Module hardware version").

Current status bevor error:
FW Updater - CXP9013117_10-R1Z03
Model 3507g
Hardware Version KRD 131 14/202 R1G
Current Firmware Version R1A034
Current Firmware Build Date 208-05-17 06:58

Can you help to mod the dell firmware to accept the Lenovo branding to, or what should I do?

I couldn't upgrade firmwave on my modem neither by original firmware nor by modified one. I have toshiba r600, but it has also f3507g modem

Here is solution (worked for me - THANKS ZeroKuhl!!!):

(my laptop- toshiba r600, modem- ericsson f3507g)
used drivers - from toshiba page:
support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/eula/calleula.asp?ID=66925
but they often change links so in case non working:
aps2.toshiba-tro.de/ -> driver download -> notebook, portege, r600, ppr60e, windows7-64bit -> search, and choose:
19/10/09 Firmware Update Ericsson OS independent R1D06_R1Z)

commands used (I used ZeroKuhl work below) :
A. checking whether computer is communicating with modem:
1.) Download putty.exe
2.) Connect to serial port COM31 with 112500 baud (my modem has com31-but it may be different in your computer)
3.) Execute command: AT*EVER (maybe 1st try give error, try again)
I had response here saying which version of firmware I have.

B. upgrading the firmware:
1.) get the COM port of modem
2.) open CMD with administrator rights
3.) navigate to the path where firmware is (I used my toshiba firmware update, which normally didn't work)
4.) <filename of firmware> -t COM<number of modem COM port>
5.) firmware update will start
