When you say totally bricked do you mean that you can't even get the bios to start or do you mean that Windows won't start.

"Bricking" usually mean that the hardware won't run at all and I sure hope that Windows app is not capable of bricking a Mini 9.

Most likely unrelated to this app then. An unfortunate coincidence.

Sorry, I might have used the wrong term. I am not overly technical.

Here is exactly what happens when I turn on the mini. I see the "Dell" screen and the post starts. I can also go to the Bios (I think it is the Bios) if I hit "0" or "2" but I cannot get to the O/S. What happens after I push power is that the following lines come on my screen:

Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 082)
Copyright (c) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation

For Realtek RTL8101E/9102E PCI-E Ethernet Conroller v1.08 (080408)
PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.
Oerating System not found

The above lines sort of remind me of how MS-DOS used to look. A few other notes:

1. My screen went sideways 90 degrees when I installed this software (maybe I did something wrong)
2. I cannot reinstall Windows XP on my mini. I attached my external dvd and put in the winxp cd that came with the mini from Dell. The win xp install process started, but the installer said that it could not create a partition (something about not being able to find the drive -- I don't have the dvd or disc with me now).

I have called Dell. I think this is a bad problem

What you've typed up is the network boot trying to start which means your Mini 9's not finding an OS on its SSD or on a USB device attached to the computer. And since you said you can't create a partition that would seem to indicate a problem with your SSD. If you go into setup when your computer boots is the SSD identified in the BIOS correctly?

I am confused: is jerseydan31 and MarkS the same person? I was asking MarkS what he meant by bricked and jerseydan31 answered.

This is important as MarkS claimed that this program bricked HIS Mini. I certainly don't want to try it if he really meant brick in the normal sense of the word.

Don.

Your SSD has failed so your Mini is trying to boot from other devices, like the network card. You can hook up an external DVD drive and boot from the drivers and diagnostics disc that came with the system, run the Hard Drive diagnostics to confirm this (Dell will agree it is a hardware problem and immediately begin replacement procedures if you give them the error code from their own diagnostic software), but that's the same symptoms I had when my SSD went. Bummer, dude.

For everyone else though, good news, this SSD failure is totally unrelated to the resolution fix.

No, I think jerseydan just wanted to know the same thing you do.

Yes, I do see the SSD in the bios.

It sure is hard to get Dell to focus on this. First you need to spend about an hour with a guy who knows even less than me about computers. I knew I was in trouble when he kept telling me to reboot - Oy!!

Edit: Dell says they are sending me a new "preconfigured" ssd. I can't see how that would not work to fix any issue.
