By the way - I've encountered several times menu bar lock (beach ball spinning when cursor is on it) after waking from sleep.

After short research I found out that SafeSleep was to blame. If you have similar issues follow this guide: How to Remove the Disk-hogging Sleepimage File from Your Mac | Mac|Life
Also you will recover space used by sleepimage and and have faster sleep because RAM is no longer dumped to disk.

I upgraded my mini 10v from 10.6.2 to 10.6.8 as described in this thread, and it would not boot except in recovery mode (normal boot would hang with a prohibited sign over the Apple logo and the log message "still waiting for root device"). After much searching, I came across one post that led me to determine that the PdaNet tether app was the culprit. After removing it and its .kext then deleting the kernel extensions cache, I had no further issues. The 10v is fully upgraded (including the Security Update 2013-001) and working fine. Just thought I'd let others know that PdaNet may cause problems upgrading...

A few weeks ago I updated from 10.6.7 to 10.6.8 and everything is working really well. I highly recommend it to anyone who is sitting on the fence.

I later upgraded to 2gb of RAM and that made a huge difference in the overall speed and responsiveness of Snow Leopard. It really is a night and day difference. Major pain to get it done, but if you follow along with a video guide on YouTube it's definitely doable.

We'll I've had no luck updating to 10.6.8
I have a perfectly running 10.6.7 system (everything appears to be working) and ran the 10.6.8 combo update. Ran in recovery mode to swap the kernel.
But Airport cannot be switched on??? Also I appear to have lost USB connectivity (USB legacy still on in bios).
I did wonder if I need to find a Broadcomm kext for the wireless, but I may have to accept 10.6.7?? bTW I've been using netbookinstaller 0.8.5pre

Hi everyone,

I've been running 10.6 on my 10v happily for over three years, but needed to install some software that requires 10.6.6 ...

So decided (rashly?) to install the 10.6.8 combined update directly from Apple - and now I can't get past the kernel panic/"you need to restart..." page. Have tried booting in safe mode ("recovery=y" and various alternatives) to no avail.

Please could someone kindly talk me through exactly what I need to do now - perhaps get back to 10.6 and go through some preliminary steps before the 10.6.8 upgrade?

But mainly I just want to get to back to a place where I can do anything at all!

Hi... I wanted to post this in case someone, like me, is still poking through these threads trying to get 10.6.8 working on the Mini 9.

I used the instructions for clean install found elsewhere on this forum, and that worked well, including the sound fix, editing the plist in update, etc. But for the life of me I could not get sleep to work. It kept crashing after waking from sleep... I installed several versions of SleepEnabler, (finally settling on the SleepEnabler 10.6.8.zip) but what FINALLY did it was to remove IOATAFamily.kext from the system/library/extensions folder.

I wanted to post that in case someone else was tearing his/her hair out like I was.

All good now. Still worth owning and using, that little machine. Perfect for throwing in the bag of my bicycle and riding down to the coffee shop or wherever. Cheers!

Oh yeah... AND I turned off secure virtual memory in Sys Prefs Security.... That and removing IOATAFamily.kext did the trick.

I'm writing this from my hackintoshed mini 10v right now.

But I've decided it's time to say goodbye to OS X 10.6.8 due to software incompatibility. As of 2018 there is no openSSL version available for this system that will allow to use Brew, GitHub and stuff.

I tihnk I'll jump to some lightweight linux distro that has up to date browser, compilers, etc.
