Hello Everyone,
I have a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 and it just won't boot. Actually it either shows the Dell logo screen, or a diagnostic screen (I think it's called the POST screen), depending on BIOS settings and then it just goes black and stays that way. Upon pressing the right buttons at the right time the BIOS settings and Windows F8 boot screens are both available but after selecting stuff there and exiting, the display also just goes black, and nothing happens any more. It started after a freeze and a hard restart (I just turned it off and then on with the power button).
I tried going into every possible boot option that might help but none did. To be specific, I tried enabling the "Boot-time diagnostic screen" and disabling "QuickBoot mode", but no change aside from showing a diagnostic screen (POST screen) instead of the Dell logo at startup.
POST screen says:
-some legal stuff-
BIOS version A05
CPU = 1 Processors Detected
Inter (R) Atom(TM) CPU N270 @ 1.60 GHz
1015 System RAM Passed
512 KB L2 Cache
System BIOS shadowed
Video BIOS shadowed
Fixed Disk 0: WDC WD1600BEVT-752CT2
Mouse initialized
Press <F2> to Enter BIOS Setup, <F12> to Boot device selection menu.
I also tried going into Windows boot options by pressing F8 at the Dell logo screen. There I tried Safe Mode, Last Working Configuration and Debugging Mode, but none would bring any change at all (I just select them, the screen goes black, and that's it).
Additional information: it gives an unpleasant beep upon pressing any key in it's final black screen mode. Neither the BIOS nor the Windows F8 boot screen are available if I remove the battery. The main LED lights up white after turning on, and it stays that way until turning off. It has not been dropped or otherwise abused lately (or ever), though I often use it in the bed where it heats up real bad sometimes. The OS is Windows XP.
Any reply would be really appreciated, thanks in advance,
Ben
