I'm new to the forum and wanted to add my recent experience with installing 10.6.7 on a Mini 910. I followed the procedure posted here: osx.mechdrew.com/guides/macusb_dellmini10v.shtml

I found a couple of glitches in the procedure:
In this step:
Quote:
Update to 10.6.4

1. When the netbook reboots, disconnect your flash drive. Let it boot from your internal drive this time.
I found that you don't remove the flash drive - it boots from the hard drive, anyway.

Then, I discovered that the NBI was not on the USB drive at all - I don't know if one of the steps was supposed to add it, but I found that I had to download the NBI 2351 and put it on the USB drive manually.

I ran the NBI before doing the update to 10.6.7, and all seems to be working, with a few glitches:

1. On some of the individual preference panes, the 3 window buttons, left-right arrows, "Show All" button, and Spotlight box disappear, but reappear if you click in their expected vicinity. Then when you click on Show All, the main system preference pane is also missing these items. This is not a show-stopper, but it is annoying. Anyone encounter this?

2. The Trackpad preference pane says "No trackpad found," yet the trackpad works. I wanted to set it to support tapping, but obviously can't do that if the trackpad is not recognized. I'll continue to search for a solution for this one, but if anyone out there knows of one ...

I successfully added a networked Brother printer via Bonjour, and installed iLife '09 by copying the DVD onto a flash drive.

So far, so good!

Thanks to all on this forum and osx.mechdrew.com for all the prep work - never could have done it without your help.

Cheers,
Allan

OK, color me embarrassed - the Synaptics trackpad pref pane is there, after all, I just didn't notice I had to scroll down in the System prefs to find it. Someone else mentioned that the one in the Hardware section of the System Prefs is the Apple one, and doesn't recognize the trackpad.

It works, although not that smoothly - maybe needs a bit of tweaking...

Mini 9 (Vostro A90, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB RunCore): 10.6.6 -> 10.6.7 = perfect update

- ran NBI 2351
- rebooted
- installed 10.6.7 Combo-Update
- rebooted (took loooong)

Still a lovely, little machine. :-)

i didn't even run netbook installer before upgrading mini 10v from 10.6.6 to 10.6.7 i have noticed my wifi seems to drop out occasionally afterwards. I am not sure if this is responsible or not though. I will most likely run NBI again then repair permissions in disk utility which seems to fix things like this when its happened before. All in all works great though.

If you have access to another mac and don't find a better way; you can take out the hard drive and place it in a sata to usb converter (you can get really cheap ones on ebay for ú3, I have 2 and they both work fine) Connect up your hard drive to the other Mac and then install NBI onto that drive. pop it back and hopefully all will be good.

Just installed 10.6.5 to 10.6.7.
Ran NBI 2351
Reboot
Installed combo update 10.6.7 + iTunes (just over a 1GB) took 1/2 hour to install
Rebooted
NBI 2351 did it's magic (about 15 mins)
Ran NBI 2351
Reboot
Perfect machine, i had problems with the sound with 10.6.5. Sometimes it would work sometimes not, but so far no sound problems.

When you boot and use recovery=y Make sure once your back into os x and running NBI that you have the correct items checked. Also, make sure your running the correct NBI! I can't tell you how many people run the 0.8.5pre and have the KP problem that instructs you to hold the power down when trying to boot. I can't stress enough...you need the NBI 20100616212351.
I beg to differ from you for your stress about NBI...251. It flopped on me every time I ran before and after the install of 10.6.7 software update as well as 10.6.7 combo manual download and install. I even lost my sound too.

For me the NBI0.84 RC1 worked without any glitch. I was upgrading from 10.6.6 to 10.6.7. In fact it is now booting faster comparatively faster post 10.6.6 update.

Thanks for all typing your experiences it helped me a lot.

I am just giving my experience that all hope is not lost if your NBI..251 flops then try NBI0.84 RC1. You can still find it on the Google Developer Software page.

I have is Mini10v with A05 BIOS, 2 GB RAM, 160 HD, 802.11n card. And I use Xcode as well as MacPorts to emulate BSD experience.

First time here. I like to thank all the post about how to install MAC OS X. I bought the disk from amazon the version I got was 10.6.3 I followed the instructions and use NetbookInstaller 0.8.5pre. I then proceed it to update to 10.6.6 by the software update. Yesterday I updated to 10.6.7 by the software update. Have not run nbi since then and everything seems to work fine. Why do you need the nbi...251? Do not want to use it if I do not have to.

NBI version ending in 251 was written to allow the minis to update from 10.6.3 to 10.6.4. It still works perfectly fine and 0.8.5 pre doesn't work with the mini 9 and some running the 10v's have had issues as well. It is a pre-release and Melkort mentioned on his Blog when he released it that in his words,

"This version is very experimental will most likely break things that are working. There are a few major changes in this version that have not been very well tested, so there may be regressions."

And later in the same post he said,

"Again This is prerelease software and will break things. It should be safe to use on new installs (worse case is you go back to 0.8.4), however you should not use this on a current install unless if you are willing to fix any issues this may cause.

EDIT: If wireless and graphics are not detected properly, please run "sudo kextcache -system-mkext" in the terminal(no quotes). You should alternatively be able to run UpdateExtra again to fix it as well."
