first switch to the clasic desktop
click on the ubuntu gear thingy
go to switch desktop mode and choose clasic.
go to system
select the "administration" menu item
in the administration menu choose synaptic package manager
enter your user password.
clik on search and enter airsnort or air crack
right click and select mark for install.

more geekey way
still go to the ubuntu gar thingy.
go to accessories and select terminal
in the terminal
type
sudo apt-get update
enter you password.
type
apt-get install aircrack-ng
press enter.

Thanks for the quick reply, now i have installed airsnort and kismet, how do i go about finding out what driver i have with dell mini and how do i upgrade that to one that is compatable with airsnort?

[edit]
ok so from terminal using the lspci ive found out that i have the

Broadcom Corporation BCM4310 Controller (rev 01)

What that means i am not sure of yet, but i am continuing my search, as soon as i find out more i will keep this update for any one else

So It looks like the BCM4310 wireless card cannot be put into monitor mode so airsnort/kismet with not work with, so tomorrow besides getting 2g stick of ram i am looking for a new miniwireless card, what is going to be the most capitable with ubuntu and with airsnort/kismet any insight guys?

How did you get Kismet to load? Did you download the source and compile? I had the hardest time with that. Can't get it to make.

Did you end up installing it manually? Or through the Add/Remove thingy? I am a linux noob but a software developer, so I know about building apps.

I guess I am bad at this. I used the package manager got aircrack and Kismet loaded but I can't get either run, nothing happens when I click on it. the apps didn't show up on the main menu so I added the usr/bin executables to the menu but nothing happens still.

any ideas?
