https://help.ubuntu.com/community/In...n/FromUSBStick Follow that guide and use UNetbootin for windows but select the iso file instead of picking from the list of distributions.

I took the Ubuntu disk that came with my Mini & ripped it to an .iso image. I'd like to seed the image mentioned in this thread, but I don't want to wreck anyone's download. So:

Should I "download" the image from the torrent to offer, or can I add my .iso to the stream be seeded?

Thanks,

Mr. T

Thanks for the offer. No need to do so. Its pretty well seeded on both thepiratebay.org and demonoid.com.

Hi all. thanks for this post. I have an XP mini that I want to load the dell ubuntu on. I have downloaded the IMG file posted here from 2 sources, including dell's ftp which still works. I cannot mount the image. Does anyone have an ISO that they can host somewhere? I have tried converting the file to iso with ultraiso but it does work.

Thanks for looking in at this post. And yes I am a noob here 1st post. I have owned 3 minis since September, all with XP.

Its an img not an iso. And it works perfectly fine. No difference between the two. They do the same thing. There are explicit directions on this forum to transfer the img to a USB key using windows tools.

I've been rooting around in the posts looking for specifics on how the Dell ftp *.img file is supposed to get used; does it burn a bootable DVD or does the file get copied onto the SSD or SD card?
(K3B doesn't like the img file format; it'd be much happier with an *.iso file if it makes a bootable dvd)

I got an XP system & would like to wind up with a dual boot on the critter.

Please, please, please read through this thread. We have discussed this add nausea. Its an img file. It will not make a bootable DVD. I have tried this.

Write it out to a USB stick using the instructions documented in this thread and boot from the USB device.

Alternatively the restore DVD that Dell provided in the box to those that had Ubuntu pre-installed has been posted here as well.

I read through this discussion and I wouldn't say the issue of how to boot the iso has been discussed "ad nauseum". Most of the posts suggest that booting from USB doesn't work, yet you reference your single post in a swarm of wrong answers as if the correct answer is obvious.

If you're going to be condescending at least write a proper guide and reference that.
