Default Linux on 4 gig SD card? - 10-14-2008, 10:31 PM

I have this mini SD card in a full size adapter that my sis gave me,because she ordered a mini and her cell phone uses a micro, laying around that im not using.

So,im wondering if I could use it to install Ubuntu on and would it fit?

About booting from it tho, besides messing around with boot loaders, couldnt I just change the boot order in the BIOS?

It depends on what it is listed as in Linux. If it is listed as /dev/hdX(sdX) it might be bootable. Just do a normal install and choose the SD Card as your installation drive. At the end put the bootloader on the sd card (example; /dev/sda). However if it lists it as something like /dev/mmcblk0p than it will not work. Dunno why, but it will not.

BTW to get the listings from a Ubuntu LiveCD go to the terminal and run

fdisk -l
That will lists the partitions on the computer.
