After my Mac OS X experiment, I want to try Ubuntu. I've used the full desktop version, but I'm interested to see how the mini version works on this wonderful little computer.

Cheers,

What does the Disc look like and what does it say on it? Maybe you could post a picture if it's easy.

Oh, and I'm also wondering if there were any other linux-related CDs?

Downloaded, burned, installed and seeding at 400k. Looks sweet. I have not really played with Linux in quite some time maybe since Fedora Core 6. Nice to be using Ubuntu again. I am an original user. I have the discs from way back. Do they still send you the install discs if you ask for them on the Canonical site?

First thing to go was the Dell launcher. Like the Dell dude in the video said its for Grandma... definitely not for me.

I got installed and working on my Dell. Unfortunately it did wipe out my windows partition but I am working on shrinking the Ubuntu installation so I can dual boot back and forth. I am in the process now of creating a live usb key so I can resize the partition. I will let you know my result.

Any ideas on how to dual boot instead of wiping windows?

Unfortunately not, this is a restore cd so when you run it, the system will be returned to factory defaults. I have now managed to get Windows installed on a secondary partition now I just need to get Ubuntu to boot again. Hopefully I will be able to finish this tonight seeing how I have a 8 am flight.

Are we going to end up taking a factory install, using a boot CD/USB flash drive, removing the restore partition (if one exists), expanding the partition to include that empty space and the empty space for the 8 and 16 GB drives, then making an image of that and torrenting it? Would this be easy enough to do?

Could any other customizations be made without setting up a user account within ubuntu? Removing the swap file?

Greg

The factory restore disk does not create a swap partition, so I'm guessing the Minis coming from Dell don't have one either.
