Default BIG Update possible solution - 03-15-2011, 09:40 PM

There was a user here that mention his Duo came with a GPS built-in.

Did a googling and found out that unit comes with Dell Wireless 710 GPS mini card. Check Dell website, it not available for purchase.

The official module name DW710.

There is also a DW700 Wifi GPS module for the Mini 1010. I wonder if I can use that in place of the DW710?

Can anyone confirm this an option?

This may be the best solution for the DUO. Gobi 3000

I can't speak to the specific hack, but there is a fair amount of metal in there to block a GPS signal.
Even for my lowly Xbox 360 wireless receiver hack I'm considering removing a little sheet metal.

It causes concern for me, because the Mini 9 had less in the way of metal shielding and still managed to make an otherwise fine looking internal GPS hack more of a work of conjecture than a solid 100% performing hack.
(It's an old thread in the Mini 9 Hardware forum)

Some sort of remote antenna placement might get one around that, but I'm unfamiliar with the hardware you are referencing.

Is it possible to install the hardware? Vermilion Hells yes, however I don't know how well it would operate in practice.

Mine came with the DW710. It seems to work, though I've never tried navigation with it. I did find my location once in my car while parked, so I'm assuming it's accurate and working.

Do yours have bluetooth on your Duo? The DW700 seem a little longer than the wireless\bluetooth module currently in my Duo. There is a chip that could block installing the DW700.

The DW710 is no where to be found on the net for purchase.

Yes- I have both bluetooth and GPS. I just assumed it was standard.

I think the GPS was something just been addon to the later model.

I may have the earlier one. Anyway, the wifi card had bluetooth built in.

I am trying to sort / find out if the DW710 is a 3 in 1 wifi, bluetooth, and GPS.

I wonder if it's an effort to get some value out of the unused WWAN slot?
