Exclamation My Dell Inspiron 10 (1010) Won't Turn On. Why? - 04-03-2012, 09:36 PM

Hi,

I currently have a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 (1010) & It won't turn on at all, I mean like I sometimes hear a buzzing type sound from the bottom of it but then also sometimes the white light will come on after it's been sitting by it's self for a day. But i'd appreciate it ALOT! if somebody will please help me out (:

THANKS!

My name is Chiranjeev. I am from Dell Social Media Team.

It appears to be a hardware issue however I would suggest you to release the static power and then run a test on the hardware by performing the following step-.

Remove the battery and the AC adapter from the system. Press and hold down power button pressed for 10 seconds. This will release the static power.

Then run a test on the hardware by following the steps provided below-
1. Shutdown the computer.
2. Press and hold the <Fn> key, then press and release the power button.
3. Release the <Fn> key.
The PSA diagnostics sequence begins.
After approximately 2 minutes the system produces a number of alert tones.
After the alert tones, the system produces either a series of low beeps or error codes.
4. Note the sequence of beeps or error codes.

Let me know what you see on the screen or in case you hear any beeps when you run the test.

Let me know of the findings. Glad to be of assistance.

hi all,
ok this is my problem: My inspiron mini 10 had a bios password set that i didn't know so i read some posts that suggested i reset the cmos by removing it. so i did. after i set it back up and powered on. it shows a blank screen then goes to a light purple( i have ubuntu on it) from there it does nothing. Any advise? no beeps unless i press a key. i'm not sure if its because i reassembled to quick.

Yes, you probably created a problem when you reassembled, such as dislodging the video cable. Removing the CMOS battery won't help with a forgotten password.

well, after you solve the video issue (as Steve stated above, its probably a loose video cable..you must remember that these are MINI's and they are very touchy), there are a couple of ways to fix the BIOS password issue, 1. you can call Dell and they will charge you but they will generate a password for you also, 2. there are people on ebay that will sell you a password also, this again will cost you money, either way it will cost you something...sorry...
