Thumbs down Rebuilding my Mini after hard drive Crash - 10-03-2011, 03:29 AM

Hi Folks! I'm technically proficient, but somewhat of a newbie to these mini's and their wiley SSD cards...

A few months ago my wife's Dell mini 9 8gb SSD hard drive failed. We've decided to go ahead and pick up a new hard drive. I'm planning on buying a 16GB RunCore Pro IV Light 50mm Mini PCI-e PATA SSD RCP-IV-M5016-MC off amazon.

Seems like the 16GB will be a nice upgrade for her as she ran low on hard drive space last time.

I'm wondering a couple of things - first, how can I get the operating system installed on that little SSD card when it arrives? The one I'm getting from amazon has a USB connector with it (that's why I'm buying that model), but I'm not sure what to do from there?

Second, is there a simple, cost-effective way to get the dell backup CD's? I'd love to make this thing a hackintosh, but my wife just wants her little computer back. So I just want to get it back to factory defaults and add our copy of office and be done.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks!

greg

you can install the OS either with an external USB flashdrive/Thumbdrive (you will need another computer to make the Windows USB installation) or use and external DVD/CD drive...make sure that you enable 'Legacy USB' in the BIOS 1st

as far as the Dell Backup CD's go the only way to get a legitimate copy is through Dell, this forum does not discuss nor encourage 3rd party download sites for this, didint the Mini come with restore CD's?....the Mini 9's even when new had no restore partition like the later Mini 10's did so I believe they did come with CD's/DVD's

Thank you for your response!
I do recall the computer coming with restore CD's, but I think it's over two years now. I will dig around and look for them. I don't mind getting them from Dell, I just need to PC to be up and running ASAP as my wife is getting a new job working mostly online shortly.
I'll have a look around for the CD"s! Thanks!
