Default Which Guide Should I Use For My Installation of OSX? - 02-27-2012, 12:09 AM

I've just bought myself a Dell Mini 10v and there seems to be hundreds of guides floating around for the installation of OSX -

I was wondering if anyone with experience could advise me which guide is recommended - Many thanks

So far my favourite guide appears to be one by TheUnlockrdotcom as it's the most up to date guide I've seen, being produced in September 2011, but on the other hand, no one on this website speaks of this guide

This guide from OSXdotMechdrewdotcom seems to be very popular as well, but as many of this guides are, it seems pretty old and out of date, only referring to the update of 10.6.4 whilst most people on the forums are speaking of updating to 10.6.7 and avoiding 10.6.8 due to the complications

I think the easiest way is with an 8GB USB Flash Drive loaded with the Snow Leopard Install DVD. To make one of these, you need access to a Mac and a retail copy of the Snow Leopard Install DVD. Loaded USB drives and the DVDs are sometimes available on eBay (UK, maybe elsewhere).

I've used mechdrew's guide very successfully; it matters not if it is old, so too is 10.6.7 and the 10v for that matter.

I don't know what computer you are using to do the install, but if you have a Mac then use Dell Mini 10v Installation via USB and Mac | Guides | OS X | mechdrew and you should be fine.

Thanks, the mechdrew's guide is for 10.6 but requires a mac, the one that mentions Windows seems to be for 10.5?
Is there an updated windows guide for 10.6?
(Dell Mini 10v).

Oscar's guide worked for me this past weekend...

10.6.3... from 10.6.3 to 10.6.6 you need NBI ...351 and the combo file from apple...

No USB sticks needed for the upgrade, just run NBI ....351 from inside OS X, manually run the combo update, reboot, re-run NBI ....351, reboot...

And enjoy...
