Default Dead Mini 9 - 1 long beep & 2 short - 02-08-2011, 07:29 PM

Hi,
I recently bought a dead Mini 9 on eBay (without keyboard and SSD)
It only beeps, there is nothing on screen.
What this bios code means ( 1 long beep & 2 short) ?
Thanks,
Thierry

here is a list of beep codes

I believe that the Dells have Phoenix BIOS in them

you can check yours by going into the BIOS settings

I believe you are wrong....it is pretty much common concensus on this board that the 910's use Phoenix BIOS although other Dell models may use Dell Specific BIOS..I checked on my Mini 10 and that seems to be a Dell BIOS, but with the Mini 9's should have the Phoenix....see this thread:

http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/begi...i-beeping.html

here is the direct link for the Phoenix BIOS Beeps

http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/phoenixbeep.htm

you are not the first one with this problem....a search on the site would have found this for you

PS. I am assuming you put in an SSD already.....check that it might be bad...1 long and 2 short could mean a DMA error.....which could be the SSD..regardless I dont know why you cant hit '0' and get into the BIOS

I can't hit "0" because i have no keyboard (and blank screen) ...
Thanks for your clue ... in fact, as i said, i bought it without SSD and without keyboard.
I might try to find a cheap SSD to check this point.

if you have no SSD what do expect to happen at this point?......what are you trying to do with no hard drive installed....I have never heard of anything like this...the machine will NEVER work the way it is, and with no keyboard?...and you are trying to boot it?.....to what?.....I have never heard of anyone trying to boot a machine with missing parts like this and then wonder why it doesnt work......the only thing that can be removed from these minis and still have them work is the battery and believe it or not you must have it plugged in then..Stupid me I was assuming that you had replaced the missing parts...I never thought anyone would buy it like that and leave it like that and even bother to turn it on.....and then wonder why it beeps..its probably the missing keyboard

You can boot from USB even with no SSD. But I'd expect a BIOS screen at least. Oh, you said no keyboard? That's almost certainly the problem.

you can run the mini 9 without an ssd, I was using ubuntu from usb flash drive for a while before my new ssd arrived. If you're seeing nothing on screen, I'd imagine it's another problem. try the obvious like re-seating the memory etc (does it have any installed?)

Thanks for your answer !
Of course a netbook can boot without SSD !
I have three netbook's motherboards that boot with only a RAM, DC and external VGA plug-in, even if a super-moderator says that it can't ;-)

I try few RAM, keyboard is not the problem...that's why my only clue is the beeps !
