Default Novatel EU850D driver installation problem for Windows 7 - 01-15-2009, 12:01 PM

I have successfully installed windows 7 in my mini. However I cannot get the driver of EU850D installed. I used the latest driver (which can installed flawlessly in both xp and vista) but installation in windows 7 failed at the end. Moreover I found that the option of installing drivers for previous version of windows is also dimmed for its setup file so I cannot use that feature as well. I have tried the windows update which installs a novatel generic driver but there is no desktop shortcut for controlling the mini card or change setting. Has anyone solved this problem?

I have the same issue, I actually just got the card working on my OS X install today.

After doing that I think the way to go in Windows 7 is to use it as a standard DUN connection. ie forget about the Novatel software and just define a dial up connection with the right parameters.

I'm going to try it tomorrow using some of the details from here:
http://www.mobilx.hu/index.php?targe...un_with_eu870d

That page gives you the AT codes to set your APN for the connection, it should work fine in Windows 7 as well but you won't get the fancy software with signal strength etc

Thanks 'tondygoodchild'. Could you also let me know how you got the card working on OS X. Mine, while running OS X, does not see the card under network options. I also tried their novatel software for OS X but it does not do anything.
One reason might be I disabled the modem radio while I was using XP and Vista via the Novatel software. Thats the reason? :?: Now that I have only two SSDs, one having OS X and the other with Windows 7, I cannot go back to XP/ Vista and enable the radio. Any suggestion?

Hi tonygoodchild, thanks for the link. I downloaded the kexts and intstalled by kexthelper and found two icons under network (Novatel modem and DIAG) but I could not connect to 3G. As I am a newbie to OS X, is it possible for you to give a step by step instruction on how to configure the modem? Thanks again.

I could successfully install mobilink driver ver. 2.02.18 in windows 7 and connected to 3G. However the option of disabling radio is absent here. The newer versions (2.02.27 or 2.02.37) cannot be installed.

The old driver is in the CD that was provided with the EU850D, or can be downloaded from below

Does anybody know how to activate the GPS function in this modem? I have read that there is a GPS chip in this module but it does not show.

My EU650D card also just arrived.

I need to know how you guys installed/connected this card into the DM9.

Did you follow this link
jkkmobile: How-to: 3G to Dell Mini 9. Not so easy way..

or did you install a connector in lieu of soldering wires?
