hello,
i'm new here and while i don't have a mini i do have an xps which is still dell any way i was looking for a way to add SL to already installed win 7 without having to start from scratch.

Do you think i can use the guide to install SL on xps 15 l501x.
i mean the only thing i saw here is the boot loader which is for netbook, by the way can i use for my install ?

any way thanks for the guide.

While I'm not familiar with the xps, or how to get SL installed to it, if you know how to do that part of of it I believe this should work for you.

If you read the thread, there's a few users who were able to do it on an EEE (asus?).

Cheers.

Hi thanks for this guide - looks very understandable for a newbie like me - one Q - I have a Dell Mini 1018 with windows 7. It has 2 usb ports only - so just wondering what I do with the two USB (NBI and OSX ISO) and the blank external drive - do all 3 need to be in at the same time ?

Just trying to visualise everything before I proceed.

yup... that's a problem.
I was thinking you could eject the boot stick once you're in the installer. But now i'm thinking this won't work because the extra folder is on it, and it has the files that patch things so they'll work on your mini.

and i'm just not familiar with the OS X istall on the 1018. . .

i think though, your best option will be to use a usb hub. stick the boot stick right onto one port on the mini, the hub on the other--with the install stick and the external drive plugged into the hub. you could get a cheap hub for around $10, maybe less.

i guess i'm spoiled having 3 ports on the 10v, not to mention the sd slot is bootable on it as well (i know it's not for other models).

anyway, GL on your install.
and if you can post back on your results, as my experience is only w/ the 10v. it might help others thinking of doing this on your model.

cheers.

This guide has been updated with an alternate method that eliminates the need for an external hard drive.

cheers.

Default Black screen with blinking cursor - 02-05-2011, 07:30 AM

Thank you very much for this excellent guide, but I ran into a problem.

I followed your guide word-for-word and did set the MACOS partition as active in disk management, but after copying the contents from the external hard drive into the macos partition per the instructions and restarting, I do not get the "hard drive" icon but I only get a black screen with blinking cursor.

I was able to boot up using the NBI usb drive and selected "Macintosh HD" from the list and it boots up fine, but if I shut it down or restart, it brings me back to the black screen and I would have to boot up using the usb stick.

Should I follow the guide posted by iceman on page 2 to set the partition as active?

thanks again,
john.

Not by itself, only if I use the usb drive and select the windows partition.

Thanks.
