Do you ever see the image of a hard drive after the Dell screen disappears? If so, you can press the down arrow to get the menu and then *without choosing a menu option* just start typing "recovery=y" and then hit enter.

Just booted the install disc and reinstalled. Applied all the updates and back up in running with fully updated 10.6.8. Only thing is....seems like every other reboot I get a kernel panic (if i immediately restart it boots fine) which is a bit of a pain but not the end of the world.

Yeah, that happens to me on occasion as well. I'd like to know why, but as you say it isn't a deal killer.

I decided to upgrade to 10.6.8 on my 10V. I read everything so I was fully prepared but I still get the constant loop. This is what I did.

I can type recovery=y and that logs me into 10.6.8 but now what.

I opened a terminal window and typed
sudo mv /legacy_kernel-10.6.8 /mach_kernel

I hit enter and it asked for my password and I entered it.

Next I typed
sudo chown root:wheel /mach_kernel

I hit enter, no password required.

I closed the terminal window, restarted my machine and I still have a constant reboot. What am I doing wrong?
