Smile 2GB upgrade on Ebay available now - 05-22-2012, 01:42 AM

Just letting you all know, there is a 2GB daughterboard upgrade on Ebay right now, for $78.99. 10 available. I grabbed one just now. Its supposed to be brand new dell part. I'll post up how it works when I get it.
Is there a step-by-step guide on how to install? Probably follow the youtube videos on how to dissasemble 10v and it will get me most of the way? I'm familiar with how to tear down laptops, so should not be a problem for me.

I was on the fence about buying it but I've had this mini 1010 since new and its really slow with netflix now. Back in the day it was fine for watching dvd's with external drive and the TV tuner was fun, but now its all about the youtube and netflix so for $79 I'll give it a try. Wife will be mad if it doesn't go right!

Here's the title of the ebay ad:
New Genuine Dell Inspiron 1010 12 1210 Z530 1.6GHz 2Gb Processor R031P

PS. I sure hope that the 'replacement board' that you are buying has the correct processor on it, the daughterboard consists of both the processor and the 2gb RAM, hope you got the right one, it sounds correct from what you listed above, but you never know, keep in mind there is 'NEW' and there is 'Refurbished' which some also consider 'NEW'..Good Luck

Default Installed it - 05-25-2012, 03:38 AM

I got it today (3 days shipping only!), taking apart the 1010 is not exactly easy, but you basically just take all the screws out, and the keyboard then comes right off, pry off the top bezel and touchpad wrist rest, and disconnect whatever cables you have to, take out the hard drive. Then 4 screws hold down the daughterboard, remove the zero insertion force clips, and remove the daughterboard. The replacement one I bought does not line up with the old holes so I left the heat sink aluminum panel off and the screws off. If there is an easy way to rig it, let me know.
I didn't notice it being any faster. Netflix is still jerky. Fail!

The aluminum works as a heatsink, better not to leave it off....or at least monitor the cpu temp with a monitoring program.

This is interesting, I put it on "watched".

But I am suspicious how more memory will influence tha system, since it has 8 MB shared memory limit for the GPU.

I want to know if some Bios hack can be made to release 128 MB to GPU?

Than 2GB memory would be interesting.....

Just put in the new 2gb daughter board bought from Ebay and everything is working perfectly. The person above was correct about the R031p holes not lining up with the screw holes but only on the bottom holes. The new board is slightly wider so you are unable to put a screw in on the bottom right. I had to bore out the bottom left hole slightly in order to screw the board down with the board cover. I will add some pics shortly if requested.

thanks for all the help!

I personally only used 3 of the screws anyway, I felt the 4th to be pretty un-necessary anyway, mines been in for close to a year (9/11) with absolutely no issues what so ever, outside of the system being considerably faster for video and multi-tasking and photoshop seems to run better also. 3 screws should be fine
