Hi I am new here. This is actually my first post. I have been lurking for a while. I actually came across a Mini 10v for sale with a fresh OSX pre-installed so I jumped on it. So I have a few questions:

Well I am about to get a Dell Mini 10v netbook with a fresh install of Mac OS X 10.6 snow leopard on it.

I am wondering if I am going to have to worry about any updates on this machine since it is running Mac OS X 10.6 snow leopard?

I am pretty new to this whole hackintosh thing (very very new).

Any beginner info I should know about?

Also if I upgrade my RAM from 1GB to 2GB would I experience a major increase in performance?
Is it worth the trouble to replace it?

Well I'll ask more questions when I can think of more.

Yes, you should worry about updates. I will warn you that here we frown on buying Minis with Mac OS preinstalled as it means the buyer has not purchased their own copy of Mac OS and is probably unfamiliar with the issues. You will at the least want to buy a copy of the OS X upgrade DVD and pay close attention to what is posted in our Mac OS sections. In particular, never let Mac OS do an OS upgrade without proper preparation.

Go over to our Mac OS forum sections and start reading.

Well they seller is sending me the OSX upgrade disc that he did the install with on the 10v.

I am very unfamiliar with the Mac OS so I thought this would be cool for me to learn with.
Way cheaper then buying a macbook.
I got it at a killer $180 shipped.
A popular seller on notebook review.com is who I am getting it from.
I should be receiving it tomorrow morning from what the tracking number says.

I am not sure that he is legally able to send you his copy of the OSX upgrade....there is paperwork regarding license transfer etc.....he might be better off keeping the upgrade himself and you and purchasing your own copy legally.....as Steve (Holmes4) said earlier we frown upon pirated software of ANY kind including OSX on this forum.....

So I should buy my own copy is what you are all saying?
Like for any problems I my incounter in the future.(just start over)
How will I know if my OSX is a legit copy or a bootleg copy that was installed on my netbook?
I wanted to just learn the Mac OS if I dont like it I can always install windows 7 right?

yes, you can always install a licensed copy of Windows on it, but if you have ANY OS on it you must be licensed for it..Windows, OSX it really doesnt matter you must have a license for it otherwise it is illegal...it is against the law to burn a copy or download it or however you get it...you just cant burn a copy and give it to someone...THATS AGAINST THE LAW....its called PIRATED SOFTWARE...sorry

PS. OSX is only about $30.....Windows unfortunately is substantially more
