Talking Need help compiling kernel on Dellbuntu - 01-18-2009, 11:27 AM

Had someone success compiling a new kernel (with kernelcheck or by hand or debian-way) on the Dell 8.04? I'm trying but I'm getting many errors trough compiling... I'm using the original kernel .config file.

Thanks.

Have you followed the instructions at:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel/Compile

What errors are you getting? What's your goal for the custom kernel?

What are you doing to the kernel? Just changing the memory settings?

Problems fades away with a new fresh install with the DVD-restore. I'm looking to increase the boot-up speed, even if is pretty good (12 seconds after post with auto-login). In truth I'm looking to optimize wifi network connection, very slow, 25 seconds after login! At the same time I installed Ubuntu 8.10 and I'm trying to reach 15-20 seconds boot time (now is 32) with a new kernel and a good service cleaning at startup.

nice. perhaps listing the errors you receive when trying to compile the kernel would be helpful in helping determine the issue.

I'm getting errors with alsa on 8.10...
Code:
make[3]: *** [compile] Error 2
make[3]: Leaving directory `usr/src/modules/alsa-driver'
make[2]: *** [build-stamp] Error 2
make[2]: Leaving directory `usr/src/modules/alsa-driver'
make[1]: *** [kdist-image] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `usr/src/modules/alsa-driver'
Module /usr/sc/modules/alsa-driver failed.
Need to patch wifi also, but I already found a patch.
