Nah, I think there was a post about a decent way to do it. Install to a USB hard drive, strip down the OS with a couple of third party utilities that'll get it down to about 5gigs, then image that install onto the SSD. Kind of a PITA. I was curious if you had some easier way that used the actual installer onto the actual SSD.
Either way, by the time you are done, there's no breathing room left on the SSD..

Using the MSI Wind ISO you can install to an 8GB SSD, you could probably do the same with other install methods but I haven't tried any of those yet.

There is a tool that can remove extra language files that can get your install down to about 5.5 GB

When I looked up the original posters problem it pointed to a problem with RAM upgrades, so try installing with your original RAM configuration.

People with a proper sized SSD are having no problem installing with extra ram. And yes, you can strip it down by removing the languages and PPC files, but you have to get it installed first to do that. And still, you'll have about 1.5gig free if your lucky, when it's all done. You'll get more functionality out of the Linux install than OS X with that little amount of space free.

So how about answering the original poster's question and explaining how you did the impossible.

I don't think he's here to provide any useful information.

I can speak from first hand experience, feel free to look at my thread here:

And you're such an expert.

This issue has nothing to do with the size of the SSD, it has to do with OS X being picky about some types of RAM.

Hi Guys, I managed to get OSX installed onto an external Drive. Now how do I shrink it to fit on my 8GB SSD.

Thanks.

Can you post a link to the site(s) or DL on how to install to external HDD?

The process is entirely the same, just plug in a USB drive before you run the Leopard CD. Then, when you reboot, you choose 81 instead of 80 for the second drive.
