Thanks again to UnaClocker for creating the iso and originally uploading this torrent. These two trackers will ensure wide distribution. Oh and thanks Dell for making this freely available :?: :!: :?:
Could someone please do this for the Dell Mini 12? I ordered a refurb recently. It came with Vista. I don't want it... but I also would prefer to restore an original Dell Mini 12 Ubuntu image in hopes that it works fine (vs doing a virgin install).

Thanks a lot for this iso! I got a windows xp version of the mini 9 and have been running OSX. Running mac os though is a little too flaky for me on this dell hardware that was never meant to run it.

I have decided to switch to ubuntu for now and would rather have this version that is a machine specific release. It will have better support for internal hardware and such. Many don't know that Dell has their own Linux development team and they take Ubuntu and make it 100% compatible with their hardware. I also like that you're not stuck with the simple interface and can just use the standard gnome gui.

I have read through the entire thread and notice that people can only make the .iso version bootable but not the .img file. I know for a fact that Macs can make bootable .img files. Anyone with access to a mac might want to try that.

I have burned many bootable linux .img files on macs that work great on x86 machines. Works on both PowerPC and Intel macs. Just use the burning capability built in to OSX. No special app needed.

Default How to make usb stick from dell mini 9 ubuntu restore iso im - 03-06-2009, 10:56 AM

I was able to make usb stick with mini 9 ubuntu restore iso image.
You need a linux pc, usb stick and restore iso image.

Format you thumb drive
on linux pc run from terminal "syslinux -s /dev/sdb1" (or /dev/sda1 or whatever is your usb stick)
copy all content of iso image to usb drive
remove isolinux.bin
rename isolinux.cfg syslinux.cfg

Now your thumb drive boot with dell ubuntu restore.

nope... didn't work...

i get the same thing that i got before... i get to the splash screen and then it goes to a black screen... i go to a terminal (ctrl+alf+f1) and get the following loop
Code:
Attempting /dev/scd0
Attempting /dev/scd1
etc until /dev/scd3
and then starts over from sdc0.. if i modify syslinux.cfg to boot=usb instead of boot=cd i get

Code:
Found usb flash drive at /dev/sdb
will now mount root from /dev/sdb
and then it just stops there with the cursor blinking

Excellent - that UNetbootin package makes it ridiculously easy to create a Live-"CD"-USB!

Hi,
i downloaded 1,2 GB (Inspiron_910_Ubuntu_A00.img) image od dell ubuntu. Can i make (and how) bootable/installation usb stick on my dell mini (i need to reinstall ubuntu)? I tried usb-creator, but it shut itself down when i activate it. I read some threads here and on ubuntuforums.org, but it doesn´t seems easy to make this installation usb stick. And i am newbie with linux....

I have one macbook-can i make on macbook one usb stick ubuntu system, and then install it to dell mini?

Hi,
on this site i found that is possible to make USB recovery stick of dell mini´s .img file:
http://en.community.dell.com/forums/p/1 ... 79737.aspx

I tried first option but nothing:
root@sugar:~# sudo dd if=/path_to_restore_image/restore_image.img of=/path_to_your_USB_key bs=1024
dd: öffne „/path_to_restore_image/restore_image.img“: No such file or directory

Can someone verified that these advices are good, and should i try to restore my Ubuntu with that. And of course - how?
Thanks

Ok-i reentered then, but still nothing:

root@sugar:~# sudo dd if=/home/sugar/Dokumente/Downloads/Inspiron_910_Ubuntu_A00.img of=//media/disk bs=1024
dd: öffne „//media/disk“: Is a directory

I do not recognize any other path to my usb stick
