Hi, all. Thanks a bunch for this thread… I've had to rebuild my Mini9 a few times, and I've used the tools from here each time.

That said, I'd like to recommend a few things to the two tutorials:

First, on step 1, it might be useful to alert users to the gigabytes they can save by limiting printer descriptions and extra foreign languages. I still have the 16gb SSD, so this is crucial for me.

Second, on step 3, I've changed my own, personal copy of the tutorial to read:

3. When it reboots after 10.6.8, it’ll show the NBI icon and sit there for ten minutes or so before starting a reboot loop. Hold shift at boot and type "recovery=yes" at the startup disk icon. It won’t echo “recovery=yes”

I kept thinking "Chameleon" was the blank white screen where I've seen messages like "hibernate is too old" or something. It was only when rereading this thread that I understood that the reboot loop was normal and that it would never echo "recovery=yes". Rookie mistakes that gobbled up some 15 hours of mine, sure… and, even more amusing, is that I don't think I made the mistake the previous times of getting confused over Chameleon.

Thanks again!

i can't install legacy kernel i get a error that the installation fail. I've installed 10.6.3 with a USB drive patched with netbookbootmaker. First boot i set it up with information and all. I used system update to install all the update first and after i did the combo update for 10.6.8. I hold shift and type recovery=yes and it boot without problems. The desktop show up and i click on legacy_kernel-10.8.0v2.pkg but the install fails everytime.

Firstly, thanks to Zeitung for the excellent guide. Thought I'd try OS X after support for Win XP ended and it is so much faster - should have done this years ago.

Followed the guide to the letter (the revised guide on page 2 with the new kernel) and now have 10.6.8 installed. Everything works, however I have a slightly annoying problem. About half the time, when it boots into OS X, the keyboard and trackpad don't work. I know the system hasn't frozen because when I press the power button the shutdown/sleep/rest dialog box opens, but I can't click on anything.

It never does this in recovery mode.

I've tried running UpdateExtra and fixing permissions, but that doesn't seem to help.

Wake on USB and USB Legacy are both Disabled in the BIOS, as recommended. My machine has the 16Gb STEC and I upgraded it to 2gb RAM back when I bought it.

This seemed to start just after I did the sound fix. Coincidence? Is it possible to reverse the sound fix by putting the original files back and re-running UpdateExtra?

P.S. I stupidly installed OS X with Bluetooth toggled off in Windows. Was able to get bluetooth working by booting into the Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.10 live CD and toggling bluetooth from there (off and then back on).

P.P.S. CPU shows up as 'Core 2 Solo' in 'About this Mac'. Is that normal?

Not sure what I did, but now seems to be fixed. Tried reversing the sound hack, that didn't work, so reapplied it and all now working perfectly, including the Mic. Freed up more space by deleting some speech voices and running Monolingual, installed openoffice, a photo editor, spotify and Airfoil and can do everything I could in XP in under 7Gb of space and at least twice as fast. That includes my Bluetooth Mouse and Logitech USB powered speakers. Awesome.

Anyone on here running Office 2011? I can get this through the Home Use Programme so was wondering if it was worth the effort and drive space.

You should install only iTunes 11.4 (not iTunes 10.6.3) from Software Update
