Alternative is to wait for new Chameleon or NetBookInstaller, which might never happen. Or stay with 10.6.7.

The solution to the "Unsupported Hardware" bug is to force NBI to accept the default model id reported back from SMBIOS.

First - grab the model id from Terminal:

sysctl -a | grep model

Mine is "MacBook4,1"

Then right click netbookinstaller, show package contents, navigate to Content/Resources/SupportFiles/machine.plist

and replace "Inspiron 910" or "Inspiron 1011" (depending on Mini 9 or Mini 10 you have) with the number found via the Terminal command.

Mine now looks like this:

<key>Model Name</key>
<string>MacBook4,1</string>

Now NBI should run correctly.
I did this, just wondering, do I re-run the NetbookInstaller Special (xxx2351) once I do this?
Thanks!

OK, I ran the NetbookInstaller Special (xxx2351) one more time, then replaced the legacy kernel and installed the SleepEnabler.kext one more time (in case it was overwritten by NBI), and from what I can see, everything seems to be working...
Just hope I didn't miss anything.
Thanks to everyone who figured out and wrote up what to do!

Also, just wondering -
Is there any reason not to use the installer for the legacy kernel and SleepEnabler kext from nawcom's blog?

Some of the other ways to get a working 10.6.8 seem to me to be pretty cumbersome, the way I did it didn't require a patched kernal (I assume NBI took care of this) or any terminal work and there was no delay or trouble on the restart.
Could you resume the way you did and the list of kext you install ? Thanks

Can we still launch update.app after 10.6.8 or it will screw OSX ?
My mic doesn't work.

Be careful, I think that is what screwed up my install. I did run Update Extra and now although I can boot, the trackpad and keyboard do not respond. I need to plug in an external keyboard and mouse. I also get a message about being unable to patch kernel (see my post on this thread previously).

I've not been able to get around this so thinking of going back to 10.6.0, doing a fresh install and applying the 10.6.8 combo update.

Are you going to try with the original 10.6.8 combo update or the newly updated one?

I screwed my update with sleepenabler kext. I had to clone from my backup (10.6.7) to make it works without sleep enabler (i'm not using sleep after all)

Now it's working. The sound/mic didn't work before patching it. Speedstep doesn't work.
