Angry Ug..xp install trouble - 11-09-2011, 04:59 PM

New here so be gentle.
I am having trouble installing xp home on a used mini 9. I had replaced the ssd in the spring with a super talent 16gb drive. all was well for a few months then the computer would not boot, just a flashing courser. so i am trying to re-install from an external disk drive using the original xp home cd. all seem ok until 1/3 of the way through copying the xp files it stops at telnetw.chm and says "setup cannot copy the file". it will not copy any files after that either. what gives? what next?

the CD/DVD that you are using is either dirty or damaged in some way...you need to get another copy of the OS to install, why not just purchase a copy of Windows 7, it runs much better on the Minis also....

PS. Welcome to the forum.......

BTW: doesnt it give you the option to skip this file?, usually when I have done installs 'skip' or 'ignore' is available, the file that you mentioned telnetw.chm is just a compiled HTML help file which really isnt critical anyway

THIS THREAD IS NOT REALLY SPECIFIC TO THE MINI 9 SO I AM MOVING IT TO THE WINDOWS SECTION

I have tried skipping this file but it goes to the next file [tftp.exe] and says it can't load it either. I have two copies of the xp disk and it does this exact thing with both cds. I really don't want to spend any more money on an outdated mini. Target has an ACER on sale for $200

well then both copies are NG, probably made from the same bad source.....as far as buying Win 7, thats your call, an ACER for $200?...well, then you buy it, I personally wouldnt, I just spent $160 just to upgrade them RAM on my 1010 but now have one of the few 1010's with 2gb it was worth it to me....maybe only me, but I got one little MAXED out little 1010 now...anyway, its your money do whatever you want to.....have fun.....

if I was in your place, I would try a different OS.

ubuntu is free and if you can install and run it on your mini then it might show that your hardware is fine.
